Electrical help please - lost and confused - calculating battery needs for uses

Thank you for the great replies. Quotes edited and condensed for easier reading. Awesome info thank you. I currently am wiring the charging circuit with a single 2/0 cable...maybe I should change this and add a second cable. I'll have to do some math again and see what size to run under...

Water Heater - the tank only

This is a good point and something worth considering. I think the planned location would put a fuel line run about 10' to account for a few turns and bends. Winter temps can usually hover in the teens I think, but can easily dip below -30F. Winter blend I'm sure (moving, and haven't spent a...

Electrical help please - lost and confused - calculating battery needs for uses

I totally agree. Already have invested significant amounts of time and $$, and more to be had. I also agree I need to do more reading and research. There's always something new to learn. But the reason for all the questions is the more reading and research I do the more contradicting...

Electrical help please - lost and confused - calculating battery needs for uses

Well thank you all for the great information and discussion so far!! Just an FYI I do have another thread going specifically for water heater systems at:https://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/water-heater-the-tank-only.202004/ FYI this is all to be going on/in a dedicated custom...

Water Heater - the tank only

Thank you all for so much great information! For some reason this portion really has been confusing me more than other options as I continue my build. For reference, I am putting all this together on a '97 F350 diesel. The plan (as loosely described in post #1) is to have a water system...

$200 5KW Portable Diesel Air Heater

What would be really sweet is a system that could burn diesel, And/or solid fuels (wood/charcoal). That would be awesome..... Care to share any pics of your setup? I'd like to see how you have this thing mounted. How you get the fuel to it since it's gravity fed? No fuel pump?

Nice to see one of these actually off road rather than mall crawling.

Need help on picking a 3/4 ton

Nice write-up. Sounds like they made some good changes for '17. This makes me question more specifics of the frame though. So a recent article I read said that some manufacturers are considering going back to an open C from issues with a 'rigid' frame for trucks and stress cracks. That being...

    pivoting frames and mounting campers

Ok thank you for the info! this clears up things a ton. I didn't realize your year had so much of a boxed frame. It's interesting its' only half boxed, and half open C. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

    pivoting frames and mounting campers

Really? how so? Looking at my truck's frame there is only 2 structural differences I can see. The pan-hard bracket (which is mostly for supporting the extra engine weight I would assume, and a very small section (maybe 2' worth) of boxed frame up front. Everything from the firewall back to...

Water Heater - the tank only

Thank's for the input Neil. I will check out your blog. I like your thoughts. It does seem simple compared to other things I have seen - then again, maybe seeing the actual piping would then confuse me haha. I certainly plan to have a electronic side to the heater as well, but that will...

Electrical help please - lost and confused - calculating battery needs for uses

Well the heating pads for the water tank is more for use when the engine is running. I would imagine only using the oil heating pad for a short amount of time when it is super cold, not on a regular basis... But I did certainly consider how much power they draw, and it's a lot... I wanted to...

$200 5KW Portable Diesel Air Heater

Yeah I reall like the simplistic idea of a oil stove, plus no electrical draw other than maybe a fuel pump to bring it to the burner. Would certainly make things a lot easier electrical bank wise.

Electrical help please - lost and confused - calculating battery needs for uses

Ok all, so I've done a ton of reading for, well a long time, and as parts of my build get closer I'm becoming no more knowledgeable as I had hoped for electrical systems. I'm no newbie to electrical theory, but for some reason this particular bit is getting the best of me. I am trying to...

Water Heater - the tank only

Woah, well that went right over my head haha. But yes this is what I was looking to hear. Thank you for the reply! :-) I will be looking up Surejet to see what their options are all about. So did you just tell Espar what your desires were and did they make certain recommendations for those...

Titan spare tire replacement fuel tank

Good you found a solution. Just an FYI that AeroTank also makes tank replacements. They have several options and can do anything custom if you have the specs for it, or just give them the vehicle info. I plan to go their route (since Titan doesn't make a tank for my rig). 3 tanks = 100 gal.

$200 5KW Portable Diesel Air Heater

This is interesting and something I have been seeing a lot lately in discussions of diesel heaters, and water heaters. And it is quite concerning to me. 210ah and it wouldn't run? that's terrible. Maybe some wiring issues, or something else, but to me the 2 reasons for a diesel heater are 1)...

Water Heater - the tank only

Ok so question for you all. There undoubtedly is a lot of discussion on water heating types. Propane, diesel, solar bags, etc... Though I am still trying to figure out needed battery bank size for a variety of things, and what this means in terms of battery size, type, recharge rate...
