    My 02 Avalanche NFE

That's kind of the idea. You know anyone who needs two fully featured and functional 2002 Avalanche NFE front seats?

2003 Tahoe Build - Family Overland Rig

Good point - the vette servo does help - but what will help most is getting that trans completely gutted and replaced with aftermarket components. GM has a design flaw in the 4L60E - steel shaft, aluminum drum. They heat up at different rates and a gap develops that allows fluid to pass and...

2003 Tahoe Build - Family Overland Rig

Something else to consider - your shocks. The Bilstein 5100s are good, but if you are changing them out, consider the Eibach Pro Truck Sport - they were designed and built specifically for our trucks and are seriously good.

2003 Tahoe Build - Family Overland Rig

Very nice job. A lot of that looks very familiar. Something else you will want to address: the 4L60E trans. Help it live longer - put in a 30,000# trans-cooler - I routed mine outside of the radiator, but I know some on here kept the internal routing.

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Update time. The MSD coil packs, Thundervolt 10.4mm wires, and new MSD plugs eliminated the rough idle and random misfire. The biggie - SEATS: Many of you know I have been looking into new seats or getting my seats redone for over a year. My driver's side seat had completely broken down on the...

Introduction and stock rig trip advice

Third vote for CO. Since you are just getting started, here is a bit of unsolicited advice. 1) Heed the previously mentioned ground tent advice until you are sure you guys really like this; 2) Heed the advice to avoid the deserts - there's a reason you can easily get camp spots in/near those...

Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

It is that bad if your fuel pump quits in the middle of the desert. My plan is to cut and access panel either fab a new plate to bolt over it with some RTV to seal it up until access is needed (shouldn't be very often (hopefully never), or use a locking marine hatch. Still figuring that one out...

Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

Absolutely. I will drop the tank before cutting anything anywhere near it. And agreed on the pump - my first replacement pump was an Airtex and it died within 2 years.

Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

Mine cost $900 but $350 of that was that I put a factory OEM fuel pump back in it. I too was uncomfortable dropping my tank which is why I'm going to be creating an access panel for the fuel pump so I can reach it from under my seat.

    Mid Travel Advice

Ahhh - the Atomic fab. Yeah - I looked at those and decided against them as I had heard mixed reviews. JD Fabrication - their site is RED (malicious code in it) and they never picked up the phone when I reached out to them before. If you go with either one, let me know how you like them.

Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

I'm going to be cutting an access panel in my floorboard above the fuel pump to make a trail fix easier should the need arise. On another note, I've smoked two fuel pumps in 16 years - and each one of them gave warning. Turning the key on, the "whirrrrrring" sound from the fuel pump was MUCH...

    Mid Travel Advice

I have a 2002 Avalanche, same torsion frontend. Who did you find for a coilover conversion? I was toying with the notion (still am honestly). My truck does really well in washboard, but nothing on it is stock anymore. What shocks are you running? I am running custom built Fox 2.0 with 7/8"...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

After all of that, most of you know I have been on the hunt for a better brake solution since I bought this thing brand new in 2002. I have Powerstop Z36 rotors in the rear, with Powerstop Z36 calipers and rotors in the front (bigger for the 2007 Tahoe). I have also pulled the fuse on my ABS...

    My 02 Avalanche NFE

Alright Y'All - finally got the front end sorted out. Installed the RCV axles - these things are MASSIVE. Note the length difference - this is because there is a machined metal cap that APPEARS to be part of the main axle housing but is actually on there for shipping to hold in the grease (RCV...

Does anyone run a Detroit locker in GM 10 bolt?

Yeah. Watch for sales - ARB pretty regularly has a "Buy an Air Locker and get a free compressor". That was what I watched for and then had them credit me the price of the single compressor for the costlier but much better twin compressor. Sold my C02 bottle system to help cover it - so net-net...

What do you really NEED for overlanding

Everybody has opinions and preferences - full gear, minimalist, somewhere in between. The best advice I can give you is to really think through what you are planning to do, where you are planning to go, for how long, who with, and a have a realistic assessment of you and your rig's capabilities...

Chevrolet suspension lift (2 wheel drive)

Nice work. Do you do any vehicles other than Chevy Vans? I have an 02 Chevy Avalanche NFE 4WD- it's the year with torsion bars, it's dialed up 2.5" and on 35" tires and custom Fox shocks. I've been trying to find a way to lift the front end to the same point I'm at - maybe a tad higher, but not...
