So recently I have been spending some time under my 1970 Suburban and figure there is alot of unused space....
The question is WHAT to put WHERE?
And of course please keep in mind we have those lovely Border Patrol check points and I do enjoy trips to Baja which means anything I put under my rig...
Very creative and cool...
I don't have your tig ability so instead I just removed the interior panels in the back of my suburban and I am stuffing random things in to fill the gaps.
Never enough storage space even as I try to lighten the load and carry less :)
Toyota I think...or Chrysler...
The Phoenix craigslist has them listed all the time for under $50 ea new...cloth and flat base are perfect to adapting to anything.
So was it sold or on loan or ???
Just curious so we know about who to direct questions to...and curious about if sold why and if loaned, well how do I sign up to borrow something this cool :)
Ok looks like tomorrow I really need to get some pics of the inside of my 70 Burb..
I have it setup with 3 bucket seats that fold flat and the forth seat spot behind the passenger has my fridge. It is just a touch higher than the wheelwell hgt sleep platform which make a nice pillow support.
My...
I was digging the surf talk right up until you mention cold wind and cold water....then I bailed :) Just don't like the cold but very cool that you squeeze in some play time along with the hard work.
Thanks for posting all this.
I have had great luck using a silk bag liner to add warmth to a good bag...
But you never loose money on a quality sleeping bag. I have moved to 0deg down bags for the entire family...even though we don't like camping when it is stupid cold you are way better off having a great bag that you...
This is great....I have been missing my fix of the Jensen magic....at times I find myself looking at older threads of Paul's work just to be amazed all over agan.
Looking forward to more fantastic work.
Great quick trip you did and a shame you couldn't run that trail as it is a pretty one.
There are a number of great dirt tracks out of Joshua Tree and we really enjoy it as a place to visit as a family.
Shame about the campground as the few times I have camped in the campgrounds there it has...
This thread continues to be one of the best on Expo....not only for the detailed responses but because it is spearheaded by the ACTUAL travelers vs a bunch of arm chair wanna be's that the rest of us are :)
Huge thanks to all of you who take the time during or after your trip to give the info...
Great pics and looks a fun ride, right up until the rider & dirt met in an unplanned manner :)
I hope Jeff gets better soon, great guy and a value to all of us in Arizona
Granted I don't live in your part of the country....
But you mention building a camping/overlanding type rig so I wonder if you really need to make it as hard core as you are with the axle/tcase swapping?
maybe you could use the Burb the way it is for a while doing the camping trips you want...
amazing pics...
I live in Arizona but had not heard of the White Pocket area....thanks for the alert.
Again your pics are impressive but I don't do cold so I think I will enjoy the pics and wait to travel that area when it is a wee bit warmer :)
thanks very much for posting!
Very cool report and amazing pics as always from you sir....
The colors are impressive and you set the goal for how I wish my pics looked
thanks for taking us along.
We do lots of weekend trips...try for at least once a month.
Longer than weekend is usually during the summer when the kids are out of school.
I slowed down my travel the last 6 months -1yr but I want to get back to it this summer.
In a couple more years when the younger boy gets out of high...
I have had my fridge be WARMER than the in vehicle temp :)
This based on on a remote sensor that showed fridge vs interior air temp.
Remember it is an isulated box, to insulate against the outside temp....the only thing that I noticed was that the compressor didn't run much :)
amazing photos and great write....my younger son & I really enjoyed the Mojave Road and you have reminded me I should take some friends back and run it again.
Nothing like good friends and some fun history to bring an area to life.
Great little write up and happy to hear the wife enjoyed the cabin stay.
So many cool things hidden in the desert that folks just need to do a little research to find.
Thanks for posting.
