I started at the back: sold the stepside bed and the 10 bolt axle. I swapped in a AAM10.5 14 bolt 4.10 with disc brakes out of a 04 2500HD. I also removed the factory shock mounts and the rear most crossmember to make room for a new shock mount crossmember. Both shocks will go towards the rear...
I haven't come up with a name for this thing besides "the black truck". Its a 1991 C1500 RCSB stepside (yes, 2wd) I bought a couple years ago basically as a shell. It had a 4.3/5spd thrown into it but it wasn't running and needed everything. I pulled the 4.3 out to start swapping a 4.8L vortec...
Long time with no update. This truck is still cruising around and I haven't done much to it but maintenance. I had a scare last winter when I lost forward and reverse on a icy hill climb in NH. Turned out it was just low fluid, and then I had some delayed engagement issues caused by the trans...
Also, you'll like the 4+1 springs. They are just right to me. You can haul some serious weight without much sag, but they're still soft enough to ride ok unloaded and flex out offroad.

Nice truck! Super lucky to find a RCSB 1500 with a factory NV4500.
I did the motor actuator upgrade on the front diff to my 1990 and it seemed great until I submerged it. Whether I use factory or aftermarket replacement actuators they always fail after a dunking. The last one I put in has...
Look up @gman_and_happy on Instagram. He built/owned this awesome camper out of a two door Yukon complete with a 4bt diesel and a solid axle swap. Unfortunately he sold it cheap and I missed out on it, but I wanted it bad.

I bought a Wavian because I needed one for a trip last minute and couldn't get a Sceptre quick enough. I haven't had any problems with it. The nozzle is silly, but it works.

They're all junk when they're broken.
That said, I'm definitely in the fuel injection camp. I know a carburetor can be tweaked and tuned to run perfectly and efficiently, but it is much easier to achieve with EFI.
Whether you like EFI or not modern engines are nice in that they don't leak...
The upper ones are usually cracked or broken off completely on the newer transmissions anyway. Seems like 2000 and up they changed the case composition and they just disintegrate up here in the salt. I've got a 4L80e that's missing two of the upper bolt holes. I was going to get a racing steel...
The LS engine platform can mount up to basically any transmission that came with a sbc. You're usually missing one of the bellhousing bolt holes but that's no problem. The one caveat is the early iron head 6.0L and some early 4.8L with the long crank flange which is not easy to find a flywheel...
I can send you the file but it's a pretty extreme mod getting them in there and i doubt the suburban frame is similar enough for it to work. I ended up torching out the spare tire crossmember to do it.
Here's the table. I used the $20 stainless steel wire lights kit from amazon you'd use for...
The engine mounts are Dirty Dingo. If I were to do it I'd make my own mounts to put the engine up where it should be. If you're not changing the transmission you can use standard 1in setback plates.

Right, I did it that way because that's what ruffstuff recommended to keep the spindle from breaking. They warned that if any up and down movement was allowed the vibration over time would cause a failure. Right now it doesn't move at all, but if I build another one I'd do it differently. I have...
Some shots captured by Andrew Hyland on Northeast Adventure Company's Rally they put together this past weekend in NH.

This past weekend was Northeast Adventure Company's Rally event in partnership with New England Overland. Around 35 rigs showed up to a farm in NH to hang out, go wheeling around the area, and eat good food. There were two routes and I chose the harder side and set off with a small group.
The...
Being a 97 it may have both speed sensors in the 4L80e already. The transfer case output on some of them was just used for the speedometer. I've seen it that way in 95-97 4L80e trucks. Naturally, the 97 4L80e I bought doesn't have the rear sensor ring installed inside.
Problem with the early...
Normally I'm all for a squarebody but in this case between these options I would get the 97. The 86 will have the 700R4 which is a light duty trans, 10 bolt axles front and rear which are also light duty. The 97 has a good big block, 4L80e, 14 bolt rear - all heavy duty components.
But as...
We got back from the Fourwheeler trip Thursday night, and then on Friday we left for Maine for Northeast Adventure Company's Leaf Peepers tour. As always we had a great time with the NAC crew and got to see some awesome sights around the White Mountains.
