Last week started on monday with Fourwheeler magazine's Overland Adventure East 2019 in Pennsylvania at Rausch Creek Offroad park. We had some time there and then the trip took us down to Twin Mountain Offroad park in West Virginia. There were lots of hold ups with such a large group of 25 rigs...
Finished up the jerry can holder and the table. Bumper is working great so far. I haven't gotten a picture of the table flipped out and everything working yet but you can see the stainless in front of the tailgate.

I modified a off the shelf Jeep JK tire plate mount to work with my carrier. Just cut the Jeep bolt pattern off and welded the bracket to my tire plate. Still need to run the light wires, but it works better than zipties

Painting it was a very rushed project because we were leaving the next day for a trip, but it did get properly primed and three coats of black marine paint.

My stock bumper was dented badly, and I wanted a solid place to put my spare and some 20L fuel/water cans with good recovery points. There are bolt on options available for my truck but I knew I could do it myself.
The main tube is 3x4 1/4 wall, everything else is 2x2 3/16 wall. The...
As soon as the bumper was bolted back on we hit the road for New Hampshire for Northeast Adventure Company's Syrup Safari. Two days of awesome wheeling in new hampshire/vermont.
I had problems with my 4wd linkage so I took it off and shifted it under the truck at the beginning and end of every...
Finished up the swing out, got it painted and installed. Far from perfect but it works. Still need to make the jerry can basket and drop down table for it.

I wonder if a 96+ GMT400 or GMT800 tahoe/suburban tank would fit back there. Would already come with the right fuel pump. The 1996 fuel pump housing works with the old guages, and is what I used in my swap to feed a 5.3L. I believe they changed the element for 97+

Mine is a 90 and I've gotten used to the radio position. Most of the time I'm using my phone to stream music so I don't have to touch the head unit. I installed a cubby from amazon in the place of the factory radio control panel, and bolted my RAM mount into it so my phone sits right there in...
The Terminator is a great system. However, if you won't be needing the advanced features for tuning and racing, and if you're sticking with a basically stock engine I don't think its necessary. I reworked my 5.3L harness in an afternoon following LT1swap, and used the Bussman RTMR fuse/relay...
Beautiful truck. Are you planning on reworking the harness yourself, sending it out to be reworked or buying your own? I've done a 5.3/4L80e myself if you have any questions.

I would say chevy 88-98 crewcab or ext cab. The cabs are roomy but not super heavy. My ext cab is 6200lbs. Offroad design for the SAS. Get one with a 6.5L or swap in a 12V.

Diesel isn't going anywhere. VW caused a major setback as far as consumer relations in cars go, but it didn't slow down the diesel truck market any. Chevy just released the 3.0L, the 2.8L is good and Ford/Dodge/Jeep all will/do have diesel options in midsize and fullsize category. Diesel will...
I finally got some time to work on my tire swing out. I'm using Ruffstuff's heavy duty spindle and more 2x2 1/8 wall tubing. I sunk the spindle all the way through the 1/4 wall bumper. I'm just tacking everything since my little 115V mig welder is not powerful enough for the main joints. Once I...
My 90 had those braces. They went up to the engine block. Guessing it was to prevent the transmission case cracking with the extra weight of the transfer case on a 4wd.
The bolts could be backing out because the threads are dirty. They feel tight because they're binding up but with vibration...
Decades of 4.3L powered work trucks and vans shows that it works just fine in trucks and is a "truck engine". I am not defending Toyotas decision to put a Camry engine in a truck, just saying that the V6 arrangement is usable in a truck.
