    Comparison shopping: Colorado, Gladiator, Tacoma

The GM 4.3 is definitely a truck V6. It is derived from the 350 and although it was used in some cars, bore and stroke are identical to the V8. I'd argue Fords 4.2L V6 is also pretty much a truck motor even though its derived from the 3.8L which was used in cars throughout the 80s. The 4.3L is...

    Gas pedal hard to push

Sure sounds like you've got the wrong cable. I had an 87 V20 with the 350TBI and the cable was just the right length, no sharp turns. Same for my 88-94 trucks. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

We got a spot on Fourwheeler magazines Overland Adventure east! Going to be a busy October between that and trips we already had planned. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

Yes, 3.73. That was the best I've seen it do, it's been averaging 15 per tank. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

    My 1990 Chevy K1500

We have trips planned through October so once we're done with that I'm planning on taking the truck apart for rust repair, paint and hopefully the SAS. That gives me all winter to get it ready for next year. A lot of things have to fall together for it all to happen, first thing being finding...

    My 1990 Chevy K1500

New front brakes, adjusted the rear brakes and now the truck stops like it should. It will need rear shoes soon but hoping they last until the solid axle swap. At that point the rear will go from the 14 bolt 9.5in semi float to a full float AAM 10.5 with disc brakes from a 00-07 2500HD. I also...

Show me your "Adult" rigs and how you keep them running.

My 1990 K1500. The 700R4 was dying a slow death so I installed a 5.3L/4L80e. Next up will be 1 ton SAS and maybe a flatbed, dual battery setup etc... Working on a rear bumper with tire swing out. It takes us on camping and offroad trips all over new england. Hopefully going to venture up to...

    235/85/16? Let's see them

Mastercraft HT on my 78 C25. It's only a 2wd but it sees more dirt than most of the Jeeps around here. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

    Diesel engines

I helped a friend do a duramax/allison conversion on a C30. They fit really well, almost like it was made for it. Being the 2wd cab he did a 2in body lift to fit the trans without having to cut out the transmission tunnel. With the 4wd burb you should be good. Harness is easy to rework yourself...

    GMT400 - a love/hate relationship

If I remember right the the AAM10.5 has a ribbed differential casing, the 11.5 is smooth like the older Corp 14 bolts. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

You could get any combination of options. There are tons of 8 lug (SF and FF) 8600lb 2500 regular cabs out there going back to the squarebody. Engine size didn't matter, although I agree that if it had a big block or a diesel it usually had the FF. The six lug 7200lb 2500 was pretty much always...

Perfect off-highway tire = LTX? What?

This is an over generalization and not really applicable to modern M/Ts. Take the STT pro for example, they have siping and fairly quiet tread design. They work great in snow/slush, and equal the AT3s I had on the truck before and the HT tires I have on my other truck. They are an aggressive off...

    GMT400 - a love/hate relationship

Nice truck! The 8 lug 14BSF is actually more common than the 6 lug version, and was the only way it came prior to 88. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

I haven't done anything to the truck but drive it recently. I've got a new windshield washer pump and front brakes for it but that's all pretty boring maintenance. It did break 18mpg combined on the last fill up. 5.3/4L80e is a great combo for this truck. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

    GMT400 - a love/hate relationship

Great truck and great thread! Since you have the LD2500 you should have the same 3.73 gears (rpo code GT4) as my F44 1500. I've been running 33s on mine and it did fine with the 350/700R4 even when towing. 4.10 or 4.56 would be better but I don't know how easy it would be to get them for the 8.5...

    New trucks and 4low...

It's a consumer thing, not a GM thing. If you look at any half tons, and fullsize SUVs in particular, there will be options for AWD or "auto 4wd" transfer cases because it's what the average consumer wants in a grocery getter/commuter truck. Even Jeep has had the autotrac cases going back to the...

    My 1990 Chevy K1500

I haven't been working on the truck much since I sprained my ankle, but I have been making some plans. My neighbor does bodywork for living and with some horse trading he's going to help me fix the body rust and paint my truck. I've got rust free front fenders and a hood for the truck so the...

    My 1990 Chevy K1500

A couple weekends ago we took a trip to the Kaaterskill Falls area of NY. We stayed at a campground in the Slide Mountain wilderness. It was a cool trip but no real offroading. We did some hiking, but it was cut short because I sprained my ankle. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

    My 1990 Chevy K1500

I plan on using the ORD kit and ORD crossover steering. I was thinking a Dana 44 because it would do everything I need, but the early Ford HP are pretty expensive here. The Chevy 44 and 10 bolt are easy to find, but unless you get an early 44 with the flat top knuckle you have to get it machined...

I thought about getting it as a worst case trail fix if I ever break the actuator again. For now I just put a junkyard one in to get it going again. FYI the 99+ trucks use the same motorized actuator. Hopefully I'll be able to do the SAS this winter and i won't have to touch it again. Sent from...
