Now I had always heard that the locals will boobie trap parts of the race...I just didn't realize WHICH locals were messing with things.
Great set of pics
John will you guys have shirts, hats or any way we can ID you boys?
Then again you might not want to get mobbed by all the folks who want to pick your brain about the killer builds you guys put together :)
oh man I hate "to be continued"
this is a great writeup and is bringing me some serious memories and a strong desire to return to the area
very much looking forward to more, thanks for taking the time to let us share your adventure
I would not go from Crew to Single cab as that inside space is a wonderful thing....from anytime you randomly might want to bring someone, to easy access storage to who knows what.
same on increasing the wheelbase, maybe see what kind of interested space saving design you can come up with to...
I have seen what Corbin can do out of a home shop so I only imagine what excellent work he is up to now with a full setup at his fingertips.
As an owner of Hannibal awning and all the trouble people have getting those I think anything Corbin puts together will be a hit.
Looking forward to...
great write up Dave and really cool of you to take the trailer through that tight canyon
I have never been to Death Valley but your write up along with others really make me want to go...please let me know if you would ever welcome another rig along
I agree on the "in use" pics....the build article was very interesting and kudos to Adventure Trailers for the hard work.
For me though the real value is seeing the rigs in regular camp life after things get settled in..how the sleeping area gets laid out, cooking, storage and such after life on...
Day 2...the race begins
The morning came way way too early for me but alas the excitement got me going. The rigs were packed and the Toyota and Superduty hauling the trailer headed out to get ahead of the racers. I stayed to capture the start and make sure we got started :)
Here is our pair for...
Well I am finally at the point of going through the Mex 1000 photos and figured I should get a bit of day by day story written up..of course I hope to hear from the other folks who were there to correct the points my memory fails me.
It started bright at early on Sat am we a meet up at Todd's...
As an ICU RN I also took the WUMP course (in Flagstaff) and it was a huge eye opener and worth every penny.
I am so used to all my tech & help at a large urban hospital that reframing my mind for remote areas was very important.
I am curious what your day jobs are as my class had Dr's, PA's...
We have a bunch of family in Arequipa if you get over that way...I can get you a place to stay, work on your rig, tour the family farm & wine operation and more
Just pm me and we can make something happen
Looking forward to more updates
Wow this trip report is what Expo should be all about, your journey covered much more in personal distance than geographical.
Thank for for taking us along and allowing us to share in your personal experience.
Sure it is cool to see the sponsor funded mega media outings and even the medium...
My wife is Peruvian and I agree that it is an amazing country for overland travel. So many people do the fly in Inca tourist thing and I think they miss out on so much Peru has to offer.
Sorry to hear about the high fuel cost, much of our family has switched over to LPG as a fuel as it is much...
Great to have all you guys in this thread...
I am sorry I have not gotten more pics & videos up yet...passed 6 kidney stone fragments in the last 24hrs so a bit distracted. Also working quite a bit at the hosptial to make up for time off.

Your fly/rent/drive trip report is great....I really like that you planned & executed a really nice trip and didn't whine about the distance or hassles.
I think your style trip could really be a model for others.
Great pics also!
This company has been doing a great job in Australia according to my research and now they are in the USA

I plan on getting a used Iphone or Ipad (or use my wifes) and trying out the US software and will get the Oz stuff for our upcoming trip.
I like that you can use a...
Good to know your desires Mike as it is your rig after all.
The fridge lid mod is well documented on Mud and I almost did it to my Engel and I think I still have the part around unused if you want them. Having a side hinge lid on that fridge means no roof contact and a much better life :)
