Or you could wean everyone off the electronics and let them enjoy the wonders of the outdoors.
Give each kid & the wife cheap digital cameras and let them explore...when you get back home have a photo show with friends/family
Buy some outdoor toys like kites, frisbees, balls and such so...
I plan on taking my 1970 Suburban up to Colorado next winter for a pop top conversion even if I have to camp in your front yard however long it takes to convince you :)
Seriously pm sent to figure this out.
I wrapped all my kitchen kit in clear wrap, then I sprayed the expanding foam used to seal door & window cracks.
After it dried I pulled my stuff out & unwrapped then it all went back in snug & comfy.
So far this system has worked very well on a number of trips not letting my cast iron bang...
I would really suggest you look at the Aluminess front bumper over the ARB.
Unless you live somewhere like Texas or Colorado where you are very likely to hit a deer the wgt savings of the Aluminess is worth every penny.
The ARB/Warn combo was on my FJC and I gained an inch and a huge feeling of...
I really like your shell choice and I think with some mods it will be great.
A fan for ventilation, some insulation and storage is about all you need.
Looking forward to some trip reports to go along with the build :)
Great write up Larry and glad to see you giving voice to your experience.
Funny thing is you sound just like my wife's boss. She works at a diesel engine shop and the owner has been working on every kind of diesel engine for over 25yrs....and when I brought him my 6.2 to check & machine he said...
I would completely agree with getting the rig road worthy as your first step.
This is where I am at on my conversion so I can enjoy the truck while getting all my parts bought, rebuilt, collected. That way when the time comes I will be able to dive in & get it done.
Here in Phoenix the price...
I agree with your thoughts on making a rear bumper...and I agree that it is tough to do right.
Departure angle was not great on my 75 series Troopie and it doesn't look much better on your rig but you can gain a bit by getting rid of the factory bumper and building something.
Also you can get...
Each disc should have a Issue Number on it somewhere.
They have released a number of them on the Tele Track, Tas and such...
Going by the number will also help you with knowing which are older as it is fun to see how the production quality has improved.
I wonder if that is the same one I saw down by the Overland Expo site a couple of years ago?
It is the same color and I can't imagine there are too many of them around.
What a crazy fun rig that would be. Then again my 1 legged self would break my 1 good hip trying to get in & out :)
I will agree that the 4BT is a dead simple engine..
However I still say the 6.2 GM diesel or the 6.5 (and a turbo on either) is a better swap.
They are bolt in configurations that are very close to the small & big block motors that came in these rigs.
You are also dealing with NO computer and a...
Great find thanks...
and for those with a bit more room they make a larger version

And you can get Glamper Tan :)
I have to stop reading this....
making your own vent out of scrap walnut? Really? Any hope I had of building something in my rig went out the window as all I will be thinking is "Paul Jensen would do this better", "Paul Jensen would make his own hinge to use here" or "Paul Jensen would have hand...
Well as the owner of a 70 suburban I am right in your shoes.
In my case with a bigger rig I am going with a 6.2L diesel conversion...I bought a 87 burb and striped it clean of what I needed. Lucky for me no computer in that rig.
Disc conversion is easy.
Updating it all is easy.
And you are...
I also am going the roll on rustoleum route after reading about many rodders using it with success.
Put we in teh desert southwest get so much desert pinstriping it doesn't make sense to spend much on a paint job
and my 13 yr old son & wife will get to join in on the project
Gloss Royal Blue is...
I cry FOUL
Thief Thief
That ain't right that you found that killer burb and now you get an even nicer 4runner
Some guys :)
Seriously congrats on a killer rig!
