    Lets talk about camp lights

My EDC light is a streamlight pro-tac 1AAA. Has a 5 lumen and I think 30 lumen is high setting. Has a pocket clip that you can use to put on a baseball cap for hands free. It's my go to light, the 5 lumen low setting is super helpful to avoid blinding yourself, but the high setting is there if...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

How does the condensation of your breath inside the hammock tent effect you? Or does the tent breath well? Biggest issue (outside being horribly out of shape and struggling to snow shoe enough gear in) we have winter camping is when part of the sleeping bag or liner ends up over your face and...

What are the BEST pop-up campers???

Its the way you have to deploy the tent section in the livin lite quicksilvers. You slide the bed ends out, exposed, then pull the bimini bars out and secure the tent. I can't explain it well in words, but if you watch a video of somebody setting one up, you will see what I mean. Its not like a...

    Possibilities for my F-150

I am excited to get 14 l/100 KM on the highway in my 3.7. Thats what 16.5 or 17 US MPG? Mind you, with the lack of aerodynamics, and larger AT/MT tires, we shouldn't expecting too much at highway speed. especially loaded up with gear.

Curious what the "best" Subaru, new or old, for an overland build.

is the sixth gear an extra tall OD in the Subarus? I drove my brother in laws 11' WRX twice, but never got out of 3rd. That thing was a blast There is a guy in my city I should track down. He has a newer XT Forester with larger tires and a 1 or 1.5" lift, and a few other mods. I spoke with him...

    Trail Marker Trailers

In the tiny trailer market yes there are good material choices. For trailers you can stand up and walk around in, the choices are fewer.

    Troy PAR

No need for an SKS when I have a VZ58. But agreed, you can still get a nice SKS for $200 these days, a touch less. SKS is a good bush/truck gun, but not really what I would consider an all around gun. Not accurate enough, but for $200 you can't complain lol. Lever, pump, or bolt are all fine...

    Trail Marker Trailers

Im pretty excited about them. The size hits what i think is a sweet spot, large enough to have some live in room, but small enough for service roads, and the good non serviced spots in campgrounds. 6x12 to 7x14. They are pretty new, and I agree the website sure could use some work. Right now the...

Curious what the "best" Subaru, new or old, for an overland build.

What are the newer Forester XTs like for a platform? They strike me as mighty underpowered when not turbocharged. Like the 2013+ style. And isn't somebody here driving/ was an article on an outback 6 cylinder with some larger tires and a roof rack etc that looked pretty nice?

Lol 75-80. You sure won't like ever driving in Canada, half our highway limits are 60. Yeah with the big tent and 75 80 with that head wind i could see that being an issue. Otherwise daily driving or slower speeds but loaded up the truck is handling it ok? Why the switch to 37s?

    Load E Tires

An aggressive Load E AT. Not a BFG KO2 though. I am on second set, but a different size. Many compatriots have had similar issue, these tires do not like heavy weight. AT treads are jack of all trades. you will probably see a lot of hwy miles (im guessing, Ive never looked for your destination)...

    Increasing Power Wagon payload

I love this forum. I see more intelligent posts per month here than I see in 6 months in the F150 forum, and in three years in the old Ranger forum. Physics always applies. As does BEDMAS. Just because Tacos roll around with 2000 lbs of gear on their rigs doesnt mean you should roll around with...

    2017 F-150 Family Camping + Hunting Build

I have had decked 2.5 years in my F150. The version out now is supposedly upgraded. They are a bit brittle in cold weather, our winters are -20 to -35°c . Some bits cracked from the cold and letting go of the spring loaded handles. They snap back into the plastic of the drawer face. And Decked...

Adventure ("Overland") Vehicles and Payload Capacity

6.5' decked is indeed 240# or so. I have a Leer 6.5' cab height fiberglass topper with bare bones cross bars that's around 250# as well. I chose aluminium skids. Still have no running boards. This was my old work truck from when I started my business and I quickly learned how useless a 1/2...

One of the Coolest Small, Off-road Capable Camping Trailers I've Seen

There are tear drops for $25-40k USD, so I don't find the price point for a loaded up XL or Up&Out Trail Marker unreasonable. And Im factoring how corn cobbed I'll be when the Canadian Peso adds another 30% to my bill for anything made in the US. Just the material choices alone excite me about...

What are the BEST pop-up campers???

Glad to hear other people hate Thor as much as I do. Pre-Thor livinlite quicksilvers are good idea if you are cool with a tent on a box, and no hard roof, and having to fart around to add an awning. Light, simple. Erases the problems of wood rot. Get a porta potty of some sort for the mrs. Id...

One of the Coolest Small, Off-road Capable Camping Trailers I've Seen

I found out about Trail Marker I think k just before Christmas. They seem to have a well built product on hand. I think it will work well as a base camp. They are pretty new and the owner is interested in hearing what people plan to use the trailers for and how, and what else might be good...

Budget, but brand new, Fullsize expo rig ideas.

It's just awesome reading about the regional variations in pricing. Used trucks here are way too high. Have been for many years. In 2014 I was looking at used Rams, found a low km 2008 SXT that needed a CV and a spare wheel and tire, otherwise reasonable shape, was 18k. Brand new SXT Rams with...

    Possibilities for my F-150

I love the RCI skid plates. Everything just bolts right up. I chose aluminium to keep weight down, and because I am not rock crawling. Already have a nice dent and gouge in the Transmission plate, so its already saved me a bunch of money. I also ran RCI skids on my Ranger in steel, and they held...

    2017 F150 SCREW 4x4 build Thread

How is the truck with the six speed, 3.73 gears, and the 34s? Have you re-calibrated for the tire size? Does that beg for a re gear or is it ok?
