Looks great. Keep in mind that you need to remove the headlights to change a blown bulb. You do not want to remove the bumper to do that. Don’t ask me how I know.
I guess it depends on the year and type of engine/transmission. I have a 2010 with the 5.4 gas 4r75e transmission mated to a NV271 with a 2008 F350 Dana 60 front axle. The only issue was the ABS sensors plugs. They are the same but the male plug is on the frame on the van and on the axle on the...
Continuing with the Party Deck project. Awning is taking shape. I'll replace the telescopic poles (4' to 8") with longer ones (6' to 12') to gain a little bit of rigidity. I've build two "pockets" on the rack using PVC pipe where the poles got inserted. They provide enough support. The fabric is...
Another project getting close to completion. Roof Rack/observation deck/solar panel. I'm quite pleased very solid.
I have not weight it. I used very light wood. The heaviest part are the roof bars by a long shot. The decking wood (brown) is about 80 lbs. I was able to lift the whole stack. The...
Flipping your current hanger will do very little to raise your van. As you can see on the picture, the pivot point of the shackle is bellow the rivet, with the shackle facing up. . When you flip it, the pivot point will be above the rivets. On the Sky shackle flip hanger, the pivot point of the...
Good work and good progress. If you get the shackle flip, keep in mind that the one for the F350 is intended for a 3" leaves. Yours are 2.5. You'll will have to shim the difference and try to keep the leaves aligned with the front hanger.
I found that tire and pressure are the main players with washboards. What tire size are you running? When I converted my van to 4x4 I had the F350 stock wheel 275/70r18 @65psi. I changed to 305/68r18 @45psi and made things easier. 2WD Weldtech suspension should be more compliant than a 4x4...
4x4 indicator installed. Not really a great need, but I like having it. It took me awhile to find the indicator. Here it's. I may help someone looking for something like this.
And now a PSA. Do not use aluminum tire valve caps. At least not the ones from Harbor freight. I went to check the...
New Tie Rod, new alignment. I also move the caster adjusting cam to the minimum. I guess 5.7 is the minimum caster I can get. I still want to raise the back maybe 1". Not sure what SAI values should I be looking for. It seems to ride very nice.
Alignment checked. I think I'll reduce the caster a little bit. My tie rod is bend so the shop was using this as an excuse for not being able to fine tune it. I'll install a new tie rod and take some caster out adjusting the cams on the arms. Then to re-align.
Took it for a spin. East...
Well, it thaw out and finally I was able to finish it. Took it for a spin and I like it. everything feel tight and the extra caster is welcome. I put 0 degree adjusting bushings and the alignment seems OK. The ball joint now work at a better angle.
It looks like the new arms will give me a...
Usually in my neck of the woods is the opposite. In Houston you do not want to do anything outside when it's 100+ degrees with 80% humidity. This white stuff coming from the skies is quite foreign in these lands.
Once in 100 years that we have decent snow accumulation in Houston and I am re-building my front axle. U-joints were fried so I am replacing them, the ball joints, tie rod ends, tube seal, vacuum seals. I am also using aftermarket Superlift control arms to have more caster.
I am in the fence on front lockers as well. I don't think I'll like to go with a lunchbox type. If I go locker I'll either go with a Torsen (worm gear as in the military H1 Hummers) or a mechanical full locker like the OX. All being said, so far with a rear OEM clutch LSD and open front I've...
I added a "L" bracket that I made out of the original front suspension brackets to the frame flanges. I've seen people welding gussets to those flanges.
You may want to consider adding a front locker or LSD since you are messing with the front axle.
The spread sheet you posted is great. I wish I had it when I was doing my van. I still may use it for a few item. Thanks.
I've seen on the sheet that you may add steering stabilizer. Try first...
