No start condition with a Chevy van (or truck)?

Just looking to pick some brains here on the forum. My g/f and I were 2 hrs. from home this weekend for a wedding and we decided to camp the first night up there so we took the van and it ended up dying. I'm back home in the Boston area. Since I didn't have the tools or time to keep working...

    Most Reliable GAS Vans

The posting of this thread is timely. I have a Chevy Express with the 5.3L. It was reliable up until this weekend when it failed to start, leaving my g/f and I stranded in NH. Fortunately it was at a friend's farm and could sit until today but it was very odd; one minute running fine to not...

Modifying and installing a Truck Vault?

A friend has given me a single-drawer Truck Vault brand drawer in rather good shape. A friend gave it to him on barter then he realized it was too wide for his truck. Now I have it. The key was also missing so I ordered a new one. In all I have ~$30 into it. It would be going into the...

FYI on some solar panel sales

So does SolarBlvd.com keep a limited stock that they sell quickly? I'm curious about solar and would not need much to keep a battery topped up but can't justify the usual prices I see. I see these prices quoted at Solarblvd but when I look they are out of stock.

12v LED dimmer switch on 12v muffin fan to control speed?

You may be right. I did some more searching and found this review for a different dimmer on Amazon but still PMW: While not the same dimmer, I take this as a strong indication that it may not work as desired.

12v LED dimmer switch on 12v muffin fan to control speed?

Just wondering if this will work as I'm not the most savvy with 12v solutions: I have an Antec Big Boy 200mm computer cooling fan - http://www.amazon.com/Antec-Big-Boy-200-Computer/dp/B000V6FKGM It is 3 speeds via a VERY tiny 3-position switch that hangs off the side (the whole switch unit is...

Good source (local or online) of inline 12v switches?

Just wondering if they come cheaper without connections that I have to cut off but if that isn't the case, then I'll go with the one pictured. A light and a fan and was hoping to have them hanging. The switches in the links are decent solutions but I need it to be self-contained, not surface...

Good source (local or online) of inline 12v switches?

I want to add switches to some 12v items and I'm having a surprisingly hard time finding inline 12v switches. I'm looked for something similar to what is pictured below. Any good sources online or a chain store that I may have near me? I already struck out at Radioshack. The one pictured...

Muffin fan for internal air movement?

Has anyone ever mocked up a 12v muffin fan (aka - computer cooling fan) for moving air inside a camper, campervan, truck cap, etc.? I have acquired a 200mm Antec Big Boy fan that has a 3 speed switch. I'm trying to figure out if I can use it in my van so I'm looking for some brainstorming...

Chevrolet Express Van - AWD to 4x4 conversion

Not quite sure what you are asking. If you get an AWD Express, the transfer case from your Yukon may fit (probably with a driveshaft mod) but it probably would end there. As I've replaced general parts because they were worn, these vans share a few parts other than the engine and transmission...

Building and mounting a Sportsmobile-style door cabinet?

Awesome, thank you! 13" is WAY deeper than I would have guessed. Something half that depth I think would be a bit better.

Hitch mount cargo carrier for bikes?

Yeah, I did think of that. I've half considered getting a different bumper or building one that can accept a swing-out pivot (http://www.atozfabrication.com/store/Tire-Carrier-Swingout-Heavy-Duty-Hinge-Kit.html) then building a platform that can swing away to allow access to at least one door...

Building and mounting a Sportsmobile-style door cabinet?

Thanks for the replies so far! peasbugs - Thanks for chiming in! Would you happen to know the exterior dimensions of the SMB cabinet? Just from looking at pictures, I agree that it looks to be too deep and juts into the cabin area. My thought is build something that wasn't too deep, maybe...

Building and mounting a Sportsmobile-style door cabinet?

I'm hoping any Sportsmobile (SMB) owners or those who are familiar can comment. I'm in the process of building cabinetry for my campervan and I'm ending up with a lot of smaller and medium size pieces of plywood that I'm looking to use on something. I began thinking about the door cabinets...

Hitch mount cargo carrier for bikes?

Does anyone have a platform cargo carrier that they use for hauling bikes? I'm curious on how well they work and how many adult sized bikes you can get on one. My idea would be to buy some truck bed fork mounts and bolt those to the carrier. I'm not looking to do any serious off-roading with...

    LED overhead lighting?

I'm curious to see if anyone has come across something I'm looking for. The rear area of my van has adjustable reading lights in the ceiling that work okay for the rear cargo area and the rear bench seat. The new kitchen unit I'm building is behind the passenger front seat and is in the...

AWD Diesel express- was it offered?

This appears to be a Quigley conversion done for Sportsmobile. That is the "4x4" sticker they tend to use.

Power from inverter to 115V outlet?

My install for the inverter and battery was overkill (isolated, fuses and breakers, welding cable throughout to keep resistance low, soldered connections with copper terminals) so I'm not worried. I ended up finding a 15A GFI outlet and a 15A pigtail (as described above) for replacing a cord to...

AWD Diesel express- was it offered?

x2. If you saw an AWD or 4x4 diesel Express van, it was custom conversion. No such animal ever came from the factory. There are Chevy 2500 AWD vans out there but they only made them for a year (2003 IIRC) with gas engines. After that, it has strictly been the 1500 vans.
