I know this has been done many times over but I haven't found the right thread.
I have a 3000w inverter that is now hidden behind a cabinet I built for the interior of my van:
Before
After:
The inverter and other house wiring is behind that thinner cabinet. I would like to add a standard...
I haven't posted an update on my progress in a while.
Most of the wiring and Hell Roaring isolator for my aux. battery.
Starting to get the house power wired in. Battery is fastened down.
Roughed-out cabinetry in place. I still need to make something for the very back and finish the main...
Has anyone used this mount?

I have a 7900R and I want to be able to easily transfer it between the base station I'm building in the house and my van. The radio will spend most of its life in the house except for when...
John -
The 1" body lift is doable; 2" may start creating more issues than you want to deal with. This mod has worked for me but please proceed at your own risk! All of this is to the best of my memory at this point.
I didn't do the best job documenting this but here is what I do know:
Parts...
I am a member of the ski patrol at a small ski area and I'm looking into buying a VHF radio to use out there. The radios supplied by the patrol are something similar to the Motorola HT750 (below) and operate around 151 MHz. The area that I need to Tx/Rx is less than a mile in diameter...
If it is in good shape, includes the speed sensor and the electric solenoid works for the shifting, it is a steal for what it is. My rebuilt manual shift t/c cost over $400 delivered. That being said, my preference lies with the manual shift units. As mentioned in another thread somewhere, if...
It seems that the military uses the plastic Scepter anymore. I just went to Cheaper Than Dirt and the reviews are pretty poor despite the abuse video. There is also this option I found:

If I had these cans on a vehicle on the...
I've found a couple jerry can threads where people have commented that the Harbor Frieight Midwest Can Co. jerry cans are decent for $40 containers:

Just curious if anyone has any long term experience and could comment? Are they...
MA is a pain with most of their laws; it's hard for me to believe that this area was the birthplace of this nation's freedom but that is another tirade for another time.
MA does have a provision for homemade trailers but there are a lot of gaps in how to go about it and have heard different...
I'm interested in your idea moreso for utilizing the kit trailers. Has your experience been positive using what most people consider to be "flimsy", lightweight trailers? Northern Tool has a 5'x8' platform that I'm eyeing.
I don't have a welder yet (took a class) but even if I did, I'm...
I've been looking through the "Post Your Build" thread and haven't really found what I'm looking for. The idea of a trailer behind my fullsize van is becoming more attractive but a full-blown expedition trailer is well beyond my needs. After really analyzing, I think I need a "Utility Trailer...
The 265/70R16's that I have on it now rub the mudflaps I installed just slightly at full lock with the 1" body lift. It's tolerable. Before the body lift they rubbed the flaps badly. There was no rubbing at all before the flaps or before the lift. You might be able to do the 31s but the area...
That is the bearing that typically goes bad. I would check your diff. fluid and look closely for fine aluminum powder.
Another chronic issue that I found is the ignition switch. Most of the mid-2000s full-size GM vehicles have a faulty switch design and when it goes bad, your transmission...
wookee - Have you narrowed it down to the diff.? It could be the u-joint.
Depending on what is going on, a rebuild may not be possible. Have you checked the fluid? If it's loaded with very fine aluminum shavings, one of the bearings may be machining out the case. You would need a new case...
I'm converting my fullsize van into a camper and I'm getting close to starting to build the cabinetry. First thing will be a kitchen unit that can lift out when I need the van to be able to haul cargo. I've been taking some ideas from here:
Green Dog Campers (in Ireland)
My build won't be...
Thanks for the replies. I had not considered the Bluetooth feature but that is something that would be helpful; some areas I drive through are hands-free only. Do the units with the mics in the stereo face (vs. a remote mic) pick up your voice pretty well?
I did some looking around today...
I wanted to update this thread:
I went back and checked the fluid to find extremely fine aluminum shavings suspended in the oil. I couldn't see it before. It took me putting the fluid back in using a clear Tygon tube to see little shiny flecks passing through. It certainly appears that there...
Just curious about what others have installed in the dashes of their vans. My Chevy Express has the OEM CD/FM/AM double-din head unit but it has a couple issues. I bought some new front and rear speakers and will have to run wires for the rear. That means I need to pull the head unit to...
On a bit of a separate note but definitely related to AWD Chevy Vans - has anyone encountered problems or noise with their front differentials yet?
GM uses the AAM 7.25" IFS AWD front axle in these full size vans (there are AWD and 4WD versions). My front diff. is making noise and after some...
I've read that using Ford keys on Chevy's is a cheap and popular torsion bar lift among the GM truck guys. The Ford keys are indexed a bit differently.
Figures someone would find a solution to this just after I put new shocks on mine! How do the CV axle angles look up front? Will you be...
