I haven’t been personally in your situation, but I would be concerned about a few things:
Most tents have a “threshold” of sorts where the floor rolls up at the bottom of the door, it might be difficult to step in without tripping? You might consider buying at a big store like REI or Bass Pro...
The Kenda KR601 is available in 37-12.5 R17 but claims a D rating. I have the 33x10.5 R17 for a while now, maybe 12-14k miles. I’ve been pretty happy with them. They are noticeably heavier than a C rated tire but seem to perform well and have been reasonably quiet until this last rotation, I...
If you really are concerned about food grade or potable water service, you need to look closely at those brass fittings from ACE. They may not be NSF 61 certified (potable water contact). The reality is that you are likely to never run enough water through those to create an issue for yourself...
I’ve been pretty happy with the factory sliders, even buying take-offs to modify, but I don’t actually slide on them much.
Factory skid plates are very serviceable for casual wheeling, certainly fine for an overland rig.
Factory wheels are becoming really cheap. I was only buying take off...
People lacking in obvious basics are everywhere.
I could probably end the post there...
But a few weeks ago had a good tire story. Driving home with my wife and a car passes us on the freeway with sparks flying off the rear tire as the belts hit the asphalt. I comment on the overall...
I’m curious to know if the OP is the seller? @vtadventure care to comment on that? Is this something you saw locally or is it currently yours? If so, did you have it built?
Mine aren’t on a dimmer but I got some single LED fisheye style lights from Amazon and put 3 on each side of the rack. They are bright enough to read a recipe or instructions but not obnoxious more than 5’ from the Jeep. I had to make custom mounts.
.
I haven’t had good luck with HF compressors. They seem to consistently underperform their specs. For instance, my pancake style nail gun compressor I got from them was great value at $50 or something like that, but you shouldn’t have to wait for a compressor to catch up to a brad nailer. It...
Thanks for the kind thoughts. If I had water pouring in through sidewalks like you did, I would be pretty upset. I think this is more of a minor annoyance and probably not significant once I do as suggested and actually drag out the hose when I have a hot dry day available to set up the tent...
This! After spending almost 1/2 of my career in compliance focused roles, I can tell you that there is power in knowing how to read and interpret regulations. Most are written so poorly that nobody can reasonably get the full understanding at first glance, but that first glance is almost all...
I personally wouldn’t anchor the rear of the winching vehicle unless I was in life/death dire emergency. I think you might end up tensile testing your frame, and while it’s probably fine 99.99% of the time, you won’t know which time is 00.01% until it becomes a bad day. You probably don’t want...
You could also build one out of the perforated angle from the home center, or maybe find a tractor battery tray at a farm supply, or even make one out of wood if you wanted to. Lots of solutions to this issue... even just buying one.
Short chunk of 4x4 is hard to beat. Light, cheap, available in multiple species and treatments. Nobody steals it. Sadly, not very overland-y... but highly functional.
After a few months of virtual lockdown thanks to the various events in the news last year I’ve made a few more changes that people may or may not care about.
I scratch built a couple of wood crates to hold the tent annex and accessories and Dutch oven / camp cooking supplies. Then so realized...
