I think every one of us should make it a point to hit a truck stop scale with our fully loaded rigs.
I am amazed by how often guys who want to know everything to the smallest details, who rebuild every bolt on their rig, and will argue tire tread patterns won't pay $7 to hit a truck stop scale...
Great thread...
I have tried to get this kind of subject going before when I had the FJ Cruiser but it never got any traction...especially on the fjcruiserforums.com where I tried to get folks to wgt their rigs on the way to the FJ Summit one year.
I often weighed the FJ Cruiser in various...
I have a ladder on the pasngr side of my sportsmobile and love it.
As a below the knee amputee it is still wasy to climb (with grip tape) and I use it often to clean the solar panels.
My kids love it also as they get on the roof rack very freq to hang out.
Aluminess makes a great product!
I like the Power Pole setups I see in ham rigs....just wish I wasn't too lazy to do that to my setup.
One thing I heard from a ham guy was that you should leave in a reg cig lighter socket for those random times you need to plug in something borrowed.
please please keep any pics coming....it is great to see the different styles of builds.
Not to mention give us even more motivation for a flight over your way.
Hey Larry,
Sorry to hear about your dad's medical condition, but glad to hear you are being treated well.
Bill is a hoot and was great to travel with, I know he will be a strong part of the DE world.
Thanks for the positive responses...
I am also looking forward to hearing from some of our folks with more training and knowledge as to anything we could have done better.
After this episode we kept our ham radios buzzing with some debriefing on what happened, what else we could carry (AED's, iv...
I have tremendous respect for those who brave that kind of ugliness. Amazing how much of battlefield medicine trickles down to the civilian trauma bay.
As I was teaching the father about tetanus shots, signs and symptoms of infection, it was interesting to watch the girl check out her bandages. She was calm and quiet and curious about the first aid kit, which was a much better result than running away from the mean gringo.I also spoke at length...
Time for another deep breath and then my first attempt to cut the shank, even using a pair of dikes required me to give it a couple of goes before the I could get through the shank. Of course our young patient screamed bloody murder which I was actually ok with. The father trying to calm her...
Once we had looked things over, talked a bit amongst ourselves and I took a deep breath it was time to explain the plan to both the father and his daughter the patient. She wasn't too happy to say the least but he understood the plan and agreed to let us treat her. This is a critical part when...
“Stop and brew a cup of tea first” is a saying often heard in the overlanding world and it translates into getting into a calm frame of mind and assessing a situation before taking action.
Well I can tell you that the same holds true in a urban hospital setting, of course it might be...
If you ever have been in a serious backcountry medical situation then you know the feeling of intense pressure of having every ones eyes on you. Well now imagine taking it up a notch and being in another country, having young men with machine guns watching closely and a screaming nine year old...
Don't forget a empty syringe and plastic tip or blunt needle for high pressure wound cleaning.
Sure people say you can make a wound irrigation setup out of baggies, or water bottles or whatever, but we are talking a care kit, I would hope you can fit a 20ml syringe in there. Nothing beats it...
I ran an Extreme Outback High Output (4cfm) on my FJ Cruiser and the Sportmobile has the magnum (6cfm).
Both used a 2gal tank.
What I like is that I can run an impact for short enough burst to break something loose, then an air ratchet as needed.
I also have all kinds of air for tires, cleaning...
The Campaign Furniture Company Chair is in Phoenix safe and sound and ready to head down to Baja on Thursday.
As a test I ask my 12yr old son who had never even seen the chair before to put it together.
Of course it is 105deg in Phoenix right now so he was caught between the fun of something...
I know we will give it the care and respect it deserves as a high quality bit of kit...not to mention it will be cool to watch it travel for a long time.
I feel very lucky to be the first after Justin to travel with the chair.
We should be able to capture 3 different amputees using the chair...
