while I would have enjoyed the extra floorspace by going side-to-side I would also miss the under-bed storage that is available when building lengthwise. And I've never come home from an adventure kicking myself for having to much room under the bed, and this is in a RB chevy so only ~10ft...
greetings,
Happy to read of your fun adventures in the van.
On headroom? Well we went right out of the gate with adding it to our stock chevy awd. It was actually part of the "up fit" package our chevy dealer's fleet mgr found in the year end incentives. With our 24" fiberine top i'm pretty...
Jim that's a great setup!
Nice to hear your kids (and the "hood's" kids) luv it and sure they'll have memories to share around campfires of their own one day.
Happy and safe adventures,
Thom
Yes in many cases : )
I asked our State Farm Agent many questions before the build began years ago.
One thing I did find out from him is that at least with SF in Oregon... I could drive a class A motorhome knowing it was a full blown RV, but making it my Daily Driver (which our Class B Van...
In our regular body chevy with 24" fiberine top we went with a closet that has all we need to potty and shower inside. My wife actually came up with the idea and we had Van Specialties work it into the interior. Basically it is an area that is ~18" deep (from street side wall) x ~30" wide (to...
This thread has such useful info in it! I just reread from beginning and wanted to send Kudos to those who've done so much research and shared here.
One thing I thought i'd share for any who may go with Aluminess Bumpers that I forgot to mention in the prior post listing our rig's "7100lbs" at...
THX, yea we are both pleasantly surprised at how well it has held up (and the general idea of "Soft walls" too). We got onto the idea after discussing our plans with a local boat/restoration shop in our area. The hull liner is very durable and we notice no "scratches" or frays at this point...
This is an older shot of the interior of our build, thought i'd share it since you mentioned the idea of soft walls.
Ours are now going on 6 years and they still look like new. We used marine grade hull liner fabric (_example link_). My wife did all the detail work and you've got to get right...
Though I realize some may consider stoves like the Optimus Polaris multifuel "Backpacking stoves"...
They are fine for my wife and I in camp. We even use Titanium cookware! . . while vehicle camping : )
Also the idea that I can use unleaded fuel in the campstove is a bonus to me. Multiuse for...
not a jeep tailgate... but one way to do it : )
The galley box on the curb/camp side of our rear aluminess bumpers on the van. This replaced a table and chuck box.
Wife approved!
Thom
my 2 bits...
As others have stated the lightweight backpacking insulated air mattresses work well. And also that the gel toppers get to be pretty much near-frozen planks at low temps.
In our van conversion we use two 25" x 78" Big Agnes Q-Core air pads on top of a Froli-Sleep System (the FSS...
Greetings DRSM and best wishes on the build !
Hey thx for the kudos on the Truck Lite suggestion. Those headlights are a great addition and upgrade from stock. We now also have a set of Hella fog lights in the front Aluminess bumper (link also shows the larger tires we are running you asked...
Looking good!
The passenger seat swivel was part of our original mod the moth we got our van years ago. I still wish someone had come out with a driver seat swivel that could legally be installed. From what I gathered in my several attempts at finding a source it is the electronics below the...
Just back from several days set up by the Santiam River in the Quartzville BLM area east of Sweet Home Oregon.
My wife nearly always finds a bit of gold down at the river no matter where we camp in the area.
This was our first official outing with the chuck/galley box on the Aluminess bumpers...
