Agreed, as long as the liquids and solids don't mix it seems to work with many materials. I've tried wood shavings like they put in rabbit cages and that didn't work at all. I wasn't able to turn the handle very well because of the coarse material. I was in Mexico once and used powdered...
At risk of being known as "that toilet guy". I thought I might share some of the pointers I've learned using the composting toilet for many years.
My original review on the portal is here but the pictures are missing for some reason. You can see the whole story with pictures on my blog...
Thanks for the kind words Jim. I certainly had my moments when I was in the thick of it.
I thought the exact same thing with the centramatics on the rear. I would have put them on the outside if I could get by the valve stem and didn't think they would deform with lug pressures. At least...
Not sure where the inserts were made. One wheel guy told me they were the less desireable PPE?? kind which expand with heat but I don't know. Thanks for the comment, I'll be very patient before I mess with the wheels again. So much work.
I'm really hoping for good things at this point. I drove it 20 miles yesterday and wasn't astounded. Need to give it time for the rotated tires to settle and get my pressures set before saying much. Does seem like a step in the right direction so far.
While we are on the subject of wheels lets talk about balance, or the lack of it. Keep in mind the truck drives fine, it's not terrible by any means. I just have a hard time with it not being the best it can be.
I've read a lot about balance beads lately and not once have I come across...
Hey guys. I've been back in AZ for a month now. I've been wanting to update this thread but have had more pressing duties online to deal with like figuring out the tire balancing, seat cushions, and a heater.
First I'd better get into some detail regarding the wheel drama I've gone through...
Big updates coming. I'm about to head into the boonies for a 5 day bike packing trip. When I get back I'll have time to update this build and bring in some serious wheel drama. For now all is going well and the truck is working great. Currently near Bend, OR.
Ok, who's the expert out there on these ambulance air systems. Maybe someone can save me a couple hours hunting for wires. Since I've got the ambulance electrical system running all the time now the compressor comes on at odd hours when the sensor detects low pressure. Not good when you are...
Got out there and measured for you today. I forgot how all the jargon goes but you will be able to figure out what you need from this info. The plates where the studs go through or wheel attachment point is 1/2 an inch thick. That's a 1/4 inch for each wheel half. The distance from those...
Very well executed. The windows are a quality product and Dave's trim solution comes out very nice. I'm just warning folks that it's not an easy process. You will need many clamps, must have a rivet gun, you will need to prepare and paint your own trim rings. Here's an example of how Dave...
Your pictures sir. You can see that solid 1x4 and the rubber isolation mounts. The 1x4 is the length of the box and has 10 or 12 mounts per side.
Lets not start another how to mount your camper discussion. It's been done so many times already on this forum. This is what I have, I'm...
I'll get some measurements for you. I was going crazy trying to figure it all out. I couldn't get a clear answer from anyone. Give me a few days and I'll go physically measure for you. In the end I just went with what John at Stazworks said. He's done enough to where he has the details...
It's good to hear you are out there working on it Jim. I'm not sure I could do this project with only weekends. Like you said, never ending weekends. I'll be in your neck of the woods around the end of August. Shall we get together for a photo shoot and share build stories? I'd like to see...
One more update then I'm off the hook for some time.
Here's where the switches and victron gx went. It was a strange blank space that was there for the door spring. The hole in the middle will be for phone stashing and charging.
I wanted to include this shot. Seems like I had to do some...
No lift required. I'm assuming the mileage changed significantly. I'll hit the road in a couple of weeks and know more. For now it's all about building as much as possible before I leave.
Current mileage is 11.8 but that's driving slow from Houston to Tucson. With the new tires, city...
The box is mounted onto two solid aluminum 1x4's which are then mounted to the frame. There are some thick rubber bushings between. Nothing special, just enough to give it some flex. I'll be under there today working on grey tanks. I'll see if I can get a shot or two.
