I decided to go with the Goodyears instead. It was a difficult choice because they are twice the cost. From what I've read and heard the 81's are very soft and don't wear well especially on a heavy vehicle. Sounds like they start out as an excellent tire. Quiet, great on and off-road, and decent...
You make some great points mog. I've seen Joe's 917 and really liked it. I may end up with something like that but I'm not willing to do the whole process from scratch. I'll take a different path rather than importing a Mercedes and building a box. My idea with this thread is to shake the...
I'm going to pass on the truck and pod for now. I'm looking for a stock medium or heavy duty 4x4. I've been on the conversion road before and don't want to go down it again. If nothing else shakes loose I may ask more about the pods down the road. For now I'm holding out for a mounted box on a...
Hi Kevin. Thanks for jumping in.
I'll keep my budget to myself for now. How about more, (any) details on exactly what you have for sale. I can wait for something really good.
I would certainly consider the Mercedes. As you stated, my biggest concerns would be parts availability and serious lack of power.

I was all over the lmtv. Until I saw and drove one in person. Not the kind of vehicle I would want to drive daily. If anyone is thinking of this chassis make sure you drive one before diving in.
P.S. The steyr would be much preferred over the M1078 if I was going that route.

Your secret is safe with me and the other thousand that read this thread. Keep the pictures coming on your project. I enjoy watching the evolution.

Thanks for pointing that one out. Yes I've seen it before. Not going to work for us though. I appreciate the help though.

I'm sure about nothing. I have owned a lot of good campers though so have a real good idea of what I want. I don't think a pickup platform will be able to handle the weight of what I plan to build. I'm definitely thinking more huffalump and less Tacoma.

I'm surprised you are selling already. You building another?
Your camper is cool but it's too much truck and not enough camper for us. If it was single cab walk through I'd be researching the importation process right now.
Thanks for the offer.

We want an older chassis so we can entertain the idea of going to south America. That makes the sprinter 4x4 a no go.

You guessed it. The dodge was great but just not enough space. A Fuso or similar can provide more than twice the livable space with almost the same outside dimensions. Very important with the ever increasing amount of time spent on the road.

I guess that is good news that no one answered. It might mean that everyone is happy with their camper. The one I was going to buy is sold so I'm still here. Leaning heavily towards an ambulance at this point, but still curious if anyone has something that meets the above criteria.
tom.
I'm about a week away from pulling the trigger on the "other" chassis. Still interested in the Fuso. Anyone want to sell theirs for a realistic price? Looking for project or finished. Not interested in anything with a trailer or pickup camper on the back. Pass through or ability to make one is a...
It's getting to the point where I don't even need to search anymore. Mania toad is doing the work for me. I don't know how you find all these gems, but keep it up. I'm seriously looking right now. Thanks for your effort.
The funny thing is I truly believe that every one I buy will be the last. I'm heading into it again with that philosophy. At least I've finally learned to consider resale value as I do the project now.
