UZJ100 built for the long trip south

Alrighty, I am sitting here on turkey day relaxing and figured I would do a re-cap on the build and why/how it has evolved into what it is. It is funny how a lot of trucks are with me. I buy one thinking it will be used for this and that and it quickly catapults off into other realms! It was...

Overland Adventures - the journey to a new life

I have never used GPS, I am old school map and compass guy. Sure I have used the generic GPS on my phone locally but it often frustrates me more than helps me. However, we just purchased a Garmin Oregon waterproof handheld GPS. In addition on recommendations from forum members I have loaded...

Overland Adventures - the journey to a new life

That is a good question. My reply is, boredom. That and there is so much to see and do in Latin America why just sit in one place? If we were to sit in one place and do the same trips over and over we would get bored fairly fast. So the plan is to move around a lot more and having vehicles makes...

UZJ100 built for the long trip south

It took a lot of head scratching but I have the new head unit working. Toyota certainly didn't make installing a non-stock stereo in these trucks easy! It really isn't to bad and there are great resources available on the internet for an install but I made a few mistakes early on that cost me...

UZJ100 built for the long trip south

You will not regret the purchase. They are really friggin nice, one of the best things I have done to the truck yet. You do have to remove the arm rests to get the covers on them and fitting well but that is easy. Cheers

UZJ100 built for the long trip south

Well, I went and ripped my head unit out last night! I got an older single din JVC head unit around, it only has had about 6 months use, so I wanted to install it. Got a little confused cutting wires at the amp, opps! So last night I decided to buy some new stereo components. I am keeping my...

Overland Adventures - the journey to a new life

Thanks! I am really not doing a ton of planning though. I got a basic idea of what I want to do in the future for work. I have given it a lot of thought but not a lot of planning. I figure the planning comes when I am there and even then I am not HUGE on planning things all out. Not for myself...

UZJ100 built for the long trip south

So far I like them and they are growing on me fast. I wanted drawers, real drawers. They were b/o'ed and may not have arrived before I need to get going. So I went with these. Downfalls I thought about with the cub boxes were I lose a bit of storage space. I can't put long items in the boxes...

UZJ100 built for the long trip south

I am not sure who makes it Mike, I got it from Front Runner. It is just a heavy duty all steel shovel with an edge put on it. Any shovel like this could get an edge put on it with a grinder. I have a few "sod" cutting shovels that you could do this too for example. They were just a bit to big an...

Overland Adventures - the journey to a new life

Things are coming together more. I have pushed the departure date back though to January 1st. I would like to be in Mexico for New Years, that is up in the air. Leaving a 20-year life and two businesses takes some time. Just recently picked up a DJI Phantom 4 so will be doing lot's of video...

UZJ100 built for the long trip south

I am shooting for being in Baja by New Years Kurt. So much to do still though, closing out 20yrs here. I have acquired a lot of stuff in 20yrs! Some of that like the Nissan Patrol stuff is hard to get rid of. If I do't make it down by January 1st I can't imagine it will be much to much longer...
