    U300 Camper

Hiya . I'm interested to hear a U300 had a gearbox problem. One established seller of older Mogs told me the computer controlled gearboxes should give better reliability since human shifts from fourth to fifth often mean fifth needs rebuilding on an older square cab Mogs. More dependant on abuse...

How long is too long for an expedition truck/camper?

Hiya A lot of Euro camper spaces are aimed at 6m, and mainstream campers are often built to fit that. But we cruised around a fair bit at about 7.5m long and 3.9m high without much issue with a relatively short wheelbase and therefore good turning circle, and with a rear overhang about 1m high...

One more composting toilet install/review. Two years off and on usage.

Hiya This shop in the UK has been very helpful to me but no connection otherwise, and have a mini urinal I hope to be fitting in our camper. http://www.eco-toilets.co.uk/shop/waterless-urinal/ . Although theres nothing much wrong with wide mouth nalgene bottles, and a Shewee as appropriate. ...

Leveling Block Size for Larger Tires

Surely levelling blocks are cheaper and lighter? Where do you store the rocks? Sedimentary presumably for flatness, or igneous for durability? What sort of proportion of rocks to crawler gears do you carry? Gears for your Mog or just a pile of 404 crawler gears for instance? Once you've driven...

Leveling Block Size for Larger Tires

We started out with I think three blocks from about 3" by 10" timber, about 30" long but after a while they ended up splitting. No idea what wood. . Instead I glued and screwed two out of plywood which surprised me in being stiffer but way lighter. . They ended up just to put the jack on though...

    pivoting frames and mounting campers

Hi . O/T but despite MAN Kat 1 having a really stiff frame, the normal (?) German army mounting system is still used with the typical shelters by the likes of Zepplin having a stiff frame within the container walls, the frame will twist a little, and the cross straps holding the two together are...

School me on the topic of toilets ;)

. Thank you for the info :) . The Separett has no handle, no stirring required so you could fill the bucket right up if its not then too heavy to lift out! So maybe you can fill it fuller than a Natureshead, or just don't bother turning their handle anyway?! . I had no knowledge of it before...

School me on the topic of toilets ;)

Hi Today I got hands on with a Separett Villa 9010. . I'm told the "bucket", listed in the blurb as 23 litres, will last 8-10 weeks, just because its bigger than other manufacturers. . The Natureshead brochure doesn't say how big their container is. Anyone know? . It comes with three buckets...

School me on the topic of toilets ;)

Hiya . The wife and I lived with a black tank for about three years, emptied via 2.5m of 4" hose. Occasionally there were no facilities to empty it so the easiest was to use the gate valve on the tank to decant bit by bit into the hose, holding both ends up and walking gingerly! . Recently we've...

    Truck Camper vs Van Conversion?

Hiya A van body would IMHO be impossible to insulate as well as the sealed box of a truck mounted but separate camper. For something like a Sprinter layout the cab windows, bulkhead, doors etc will always leak heat and gain condensation even with a curtain "sealing" off the living area at...

Can you have too much solar?

Hi Thank you for the replies :) . . The last camper had 255Ah at 24v with two I think 120watt panels. Round the Med we didn't need to drive, batteries full all day every day. Northern Scotland in winter the solar may as well not have been there. We did go to Iceland and took a little genny, but...

Can you have too much solar?

Hi folks In the past it seemed that since solar was pretty expensive it was as well doing a best guess calculation on I have this amount of current usage, I want to be parked up for this period of time, therefore I need this many watts of solar. Solar is still not cheap, and semi flexy panels...

    TerraLiner:12 m Globally Mobile Beach House/Class-A Crossover w 6x6 Hybrid Drivetrain

Hi Biotect et al :) No, I have not yet read all this monster but I will catch up when I can. My last camper had 395 85 R20 XZLs and I could change them on split rims by myself fairly easily. And, if I dropped one flat I could stand it up again on flat, smooth ground. But I recently had a...

Fishy smell from a cast iron pan??

Thank you for the replies :) It has certainly been so hot we've had to leave the house because of the smoke, but I hadn't thought of having a proper go at removing the surface abrasively. Plastic scourer so far only. Since the pan soaks up oil to some degree I was thinking the smell must be...

Fishy smell from a cast iron pan??

Hiyi Weird question, but how do you get the smell out of a cast iron pan?! I bought a lovely one second hand last year and as my first experience with a pan like this its fab. But, it smells of fish. I'm not a big fan of fish, especially when cooking up a big fried breakfast after the night...

    Water purifying

Hi DiploStrat your experience may be beyond most here, but your explanation is maybe a little brief for those who are looking for good practice? Filtration only for "really" dirty water?? If bleach kills the bugs it won't sterilise whats inside them as they decompose, or kill cysts. Same with...
