    Bulb seal

Another option would be to determine a similar vehicle based application and order for that from an auto parts supplier. For instance, the seal shown earlier in a photo is a basic pinch weld seal that can be found in great variety on various car doors. Walk through a junkyard with a measuring...

    Bulb seal

Similarly, I buy from Grainger all the time in California. With the new curbside services it is super easy, credit card on the web and they bring it to the car. however, Amazon has lots of those types of things and they bring it to your house!

Tall jacks vs adjustable RTT rack

They will work, but as you go higher each little wobble starts to feel a lot bigger. My experience has been that they are usually a little loose to allow for easy alignment of the pin. I’m sure you won’t have any significant issues. Lots of construction sign trailers and similar stuff just...

Tall jacks vs adjustable RTT rack

So you want to lift it what, maybe 26-30”? It could work if you can get enough travel in a Jack. I wouldn’t be as worried about tip-over as the previous response, but I would figure out how to mount the jacks rigidly to the frame sides and not have them pivot. I think you might lose some...

Tent Dilemma, Ruggedized version or larger tent?

I’ve owned 3 different explorer series from Tepui and found them all to be plenty “rugged”. The exception being the strength of the floor. The floor will eventually dent down in between the ribs, especially if you stand or walk in it frequently. I’m guessing a toddler and dog will do that...

Mounting skycamper 2.0 on JKU so you can still use the sun roofs

I looked at my Gobi and jk tonight. The glass does not open far enough to hit the bottom of anything on top of the rack. I should have remembered this, as my tent opened off the rear of the Jeep and I didn’t remember any glass interference, but it was 1-3/8” higher than the Gobi rails. It...

Solar and the RTT: What's the most common setup?

Running fridge and winch and 200 watts of solar on a single group 27 marine battery that also starts the Jeep... so Option 1. I moved the RTT to a trailer with another group 27 battery that only runs the RTT and the trailer as needed (brakes, some LED lighting)... while that can charge through...

Mounting skycamper 2.0 on JKU so you can still use the sun roofs

As a follow up thought, I think you might find a lot of crap blasted down through the panels by the front of the tent if you drive at much speed with that setup. I can’t promise that, it’s just a theory. If you are running the Gobi wind deflector, that might lift most of it up and over the tent.

Mounting skycamper 2.0 on JKU so you can still use the sun roofs

You should be able to overhang the rear a bit, but double check any interference from the opening of the rear glass over the top edge of the Gobi or you will sign up for an eventual bad day. I can’t recall how much Overhang I had on my RTT, but I want to say it was at least 8 inches from the...

Ideas for slide-out kitchen light using aluminum channel

Can you just drill a bigger hole through the light following the existing screw hole? 4 or 6... should be easy. and no, 1.8 watts won’t matter, but having less light is often nice / considerate, especially if others are nearby.

DIY Telescoping Lift for RTT on Trailer

Okay, as a point of fairness, I said “virtually impossible” then focused on telescopic tube. There are some specially made tubes available, perhaps MCMaster 4931T511 could be made to work, it might even allow a bolt-together construction, but you still have to lift and pin 4 corners Near...

DIY Telescoping Lift for RTT on Trailer

What you are asking is virtually impossible. There are no tubing combinations that are readily available in close enough tolerances to be telescopic without special purchases of machined tubes or very heavy materials (think receiver hitch heavy). Unless you are he-man, or camp with a set of...

interference between spring poles and awnings...

If it was me, once I determined the hole placement, I would sew a heavy leather or similar vinyl/ripstop material like they use on snowshoe decking (the name escapes me now) with a heavy brass or other metallic grommet in it. You could probably come up with some sort of cover flap too to limit...

    Redarc Brake controller install

I don’t know the RedARC, but my Tekonsha is supposed to be powered 100% of the time. Is it possible that you are constantly calibrating because you installed it with switched power, so it is experiencing a complete restart every time you use it?

Maybe mock it up with heavy construction paper first and poke the random holes in that until you get to something that you can measure to the right final location?

    RTT Mounting Rails vs 8020

Yes. Depending on where you are mounting, is easier to use, in my opinion. This is my current tent, mounted on the lower profile strut, welded into my custom rack on my trailer. Prior to that, I had several different Tepui tents mounted on full height strut running perpendicular to the...

    RTT Mounting Rails vs 8020

I can snap one of the current tent. Pretty easy, just go through the factory mounts with 1/4-20 bolts into 1/4-20 strut nuts (I like the cone nuts), use Loctite. The “u” of the strut faces up against the tent bottom and then bolt the strut down to your rack/crossbars however you prefer. I’ve...

    RTT Mounting Rails vs 8020

Unistrut is better and cheaper. Home Depot solution, easily customized. I’ve mounted every RTT I’ve had after the first time that way.
