Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

We have finished another video. This one is where the truck fell off the jack and damaged the portal bearing. Its from a couple of years ago.

    New Mog Life

I have glued on the sensors to the hub, and all I look for is a change in what is normal. When my handbrake pad got stuck, the one portal temperature rose pretty quickly.

    New Mog Life

Atlas made a temperature monitoring system, monitors the portals, engine, gearbox, diff etc. Not sure if they still sell them, https://atlas4x4.de/unimog-fahrerhaus/

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

First test drive in the truck with the new transmission. I can say it was worth the effort. It sits at 100kph at 2050rpm, and it is much quieter. Pretty happy with the result.

    Lowly the Lorry. . .

Do you guys have various "rules" for overhang - I know here that we are only allowed 60% of the wheelbase. If yours is more than that, then you won't be allowed to bring it to visit Australia. I would make sure, it looks like you have a lot more than that, and you will need to comply with the...

Possible driveline update OM352A to OM906LA

I think it's good idea, provided there is enough space for everything to fit. The 1970's OM352 motors are quite reliable, but there are limits to what can be done especially as far as emissions are concerned. Doing the complete swap would be easier than a Frankenstein motor / gearbox...

    Layout dilemma....

I'd suggest giving it a practise run by putting a board up at 1229mm and see if you can move around underneath it and do what you want to do on the bed ( assuming it does become a bed) , nothing worse than inconstantly hitting your head. We have 1150mm from top of the mattress to the roof...

    Layout dilemma....

Minimise the overhead storage, but if you platform is you bed, then make sure you have enough headroom. My wife explains it a lot better than I do :)

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

The truck is finally mobile again. No big crunching noises and the gearbox changes nice and smooth. The pneumatic gear change works great. The forward/ reverse change is super quick and smooth. The High/low range takes a few seconds to change. The engraving on the buttons came out...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

On a small one like mine, I'd say yes, as the transmission needs to go come out at quite an angle, especially if you want to fit a UG100/8 which is quite a bit bigger. I know that if you have a U1700 then you can take it out by pulling back the axles/torque tubes back away from the the with...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

The shed is looking a bit cleaner now, the front and back axles are now on the truck. The silver trolley in the foreground is what I made to be able to move and align the axles, couldn't have done it without it. The hydraulic jacks enable me to lift the toque tubes. This made it pretty...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

HI Simon, hand survived, probably overused it a bit as was quite sore today, but it's getting better. The new gearbox was taller than the old, but it just clears, I had to push it forward when lifting in, then move it back into position. It has about 70mm of clearance, which is enough I...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

Been a couple of big weekends working on the truck. First was to take the UG3/40 tranmission out. In order to do that, I had to take the front and rear axles off - to get enough space for the transplant. Then to take out the UG3/100 transmission, which came out quite easily, one I got...
