    2018 Subaru Crosstrek

I'm not a fan of the front redesign. Headlights are almost Cherokee-esque. It's a cool little car. If I were single, I wouldn't mind one. Engine power could use a boost, but I wouldn't complain. It's not like my Outback is a rocketship, either.

    4Runner or Tacoma? Need Advice

There you go. Steel wheels, manual trans. Minimal options. I'm not a fan of barn doors, or the built in 3rd row. But minor nuisance. _ Don't worry, though, we'll never get them here.

    4Runner or Tacoma? Need Advice

Even the 3rd gen base models were fairly stripped down. They had back seats, but radio, A/C, manual trans, xfer case LEVER, and optional rear locker. I'm sure you'd be all over that if current gen were available with that config. :D

Traded Tacoma for '16 ecoboost F-150. Heresy?!

I agree. It does ride a bit harsher than other 1/2 tons, but way better than my old Tacoma or 4Runner. Seats are way better as well.

    Suspension Education for Neophyte

The lack of response come from lack of info. You say you're going to explore the West. Not sure what that means. Are you hitting Rubicon? Or dirt roads? What is "required" will depend on what you will be doing.

    4Runner or Tacoma? Need Advice

This is the second time this has been mentioned in this thread, and multiple times elsewhere. Can you confirm this? From the specs I'm looking up, it doesn't appear to be true. Tiny bit more leg room (0.3") and headroom (0.3"), but less shoulder room (1.1") and less hip room (0.6"). Pretty...

Subaru owners: Let's see your expedition rigs!

I never use the (dumb) paddle shifters in my Outback. Essentially useless. _ As far as off-road, I'm not sure why an XT would be any better. X-mode is the option you want, which comes on both Forester and Outback.

Thoughts on these two for Expo rigs?

Guess it depends on what type of expeditions you'll be doing? Do you need to bring that much cargo?

Traded Tacoma for '16 ecoboost F-150. Heresy?!

Towing with the Ecoboost (as far as power) is amazing. Especially at elevation. The new 3.5 with 10-sp would probably be even better. If I were towing 7k lb+, I would definitely get the HD Payload package, though, which gets you a GVWR of 7,850. _ But if you've already got a Ram, and it does...

    Thinking about a new Frontier......but.....

So you're comparing a fully optioned out Colorado Z71/ZR2 diesel to these trucks? Not a fair comparison or "equivalently" optioned like the OP said. Talk to Chevy dealers. There are some good discounts on those Colorado's.

Who tows with a diesel Colorado ?

I looked into stripped down fleet vehicles myself. But they weren't cheap, surprisingly. I was getting quotes at $30k. For bare-bones nothing, XL model. That's only $6k less than what I paid with a good amount of options. Didn't make sense for me, especially considering how those extras...

Who tows with a diesel Colorado ?

Man, I'll admit, the power of boost was a factor when I got my truck. Sure, I could have been fine driving a N/A 3.5L V6, but that extra kick is pretty nice every now and then.

    Thinking about a new Frontier......but.....

I can see the Tacoma being ~$10k more, but a Colorado? They discount those pretty heavily. I would expect the final price to come out around what you pay for a Frontier, or maybe even cheaper.

    Fat bikes

For me, it's all about exploration type riding. There's nowhere near the grip like on dirt, so even downhills are lackluster. Unless you're a pro with access to primo groomed trails. But being out there in the back country, taking in the scenery, while getting good exercise--that's what makes...

Who tows with a diesel Colorado ?

My main beef with diesel is the upfront cost. There are other little quirks, but overall, if I were towing a lot, that's a great little set up. I seldom tow, which is why I am sticking with gas. But the deal you got on that thing, that would be hard to pass up. Especially considering you...

Who tows with a diesel Colorado ?

Hm. I guess I don't see what the issue is. The diesel got to the top, right? Without issues? Then performed better downhill and got twice the MPG? I'm not a diesel fan, but if I were towing, give me that diesel. So it was 1 min slower. Big whoop!

Who tows with a diesel Colorado ?

I think visibility in modern vehicles, for the most part, has declined. Huge pillars encasing airbags, extra reinforcements, etc. don't help. All in the name of safety, though, so it's a good trade-off.

    26r, 29r or other?

If I were to get a new bike today, it's really hard to overlook the 27.5 plus platform. Gives you pretty good float on the super loose stuff (sand or snow), but not as draggy as full on fat tires. It can also take 29" tires for fast rides. Look at the Surly Karate Monkey ('17 models) or Salsa...

Fat bikes!! For a 1 bike solution, they are hard to beat. Love mine as well. _ Having said that, at least some variety isn't a bad thing: https://www.google.com/amp/s/meriwethercycles.wordpress.com/2014/01/18/combo-bikes-suck/amp/?client=safari - One-bike plan has been a fantasy for my for a...
