Fuel on roof. Fore or aft?

I say put it up front so you can see it leak down the windshield! I’ve carried wavian cans inside. And outside... no issues. The concept of “safe” or “unsafe” is just that ... a concept. It’s all about risk, and risk is in the eye of the beholder. Some jurisdictions may attach liability to...

Bought. WTB, WTT Dexter trailer axle hubs, 6 lug

Hubs / bearings / seals are basically scrap iron in my eyes, completely useable, but probably have a value somewhere around $40 if I list them somewhere. If you’re coming from So-Cal, one of my wife’s favorite beers is distributed there but not here... happy wife has more value to me than some...

Wrong axle received, new axle also received. case closed.

I understand what you are after. I would run it as is and make up any difference with tire adjustments. If you are coming in around 1700-2000 lbs on a 3500 axle system, that feels “about right” to me.

Wrong axle received, new axle also received. case closed.

I don’t think I would plan to run an axle that close to its weight rating on a trailer intended for any sort of rough road. Is the spindle on the 2k smaller? Will you actually de-rate anything metal or just get a lighter torsion element? My suggestion would be to run the heavier wheel hub...

Bought. WTB, WTT Dexter trailer axle hubs, 6 lug

I wish I would have seen this earlier. I just ordered drum/hubs and spacers to flip my AT chaser from toyota 6-lug to JK wheels. I’m guessing shipping would be prohibitive, but someone local and interested... I have the 16” wheels with 265 KO2s, lug nuts with shoulders, metric studded spacers...

    Some RTT Questions

I have had tents mold with as little as 1 week closed up in mild temps (65-70 and sunny). Those had been in rain, not just condensation, but it is a real concern. Anytime I’m in the wet and not opening back up each day, I set up in the driveway for 3-4 hours after returning and if it isn’t hot...

Purchasing JK need advice on suspension setup

Given the number of totally stock mall crawlers out there in the universe, I am confused as to why you seem to be looking at lifted and in some cases apparently heavily modified JKs. All of them will have hidden problems. Few sellers are doing that because they have absolutely dependable and...

Mopar JK Big Brake Kit Regrets?

Time has come for a second brake job on my 2014 JKU, including new rotors up front. That gets me about 1/2 way to the cost of the mopar BBK, and I’m thinking about jumping up there. Has anyone done that and regretted it? I’m stock but heavy, and starting to pull a trailer more often.

    Parasitic Battery Drain...

Just noticing that you are in Washington, I would also look for water in the plugs. Open them, spray some silicone, re-plug.

    Parasitic Battery Drain...

JK models are known for all sorts of random electric failures in the Integrated Power Module, google IPM failure and you’ll see it. I would start cheaper and look at the brake switch first though. I believe you should be able to see the brake switch signal on the bus with a fairly basic...

97 Trooper w/ seized engine worthwhile?

To me, it would depend on rust and where I was in the world. You said you can’t or won’t do the work yourself, that could be a problem if you don’t sleep in a shoveled up pile of cash every night, but if you have a shadetree mechanic dude and a punch of pick-n-pulls nearby, I would go for it...

    Synthetic pants and campfires?

I don’t have that brand, but I have synthetic pants with burn holes in them. I don’t think it was the first ember though, the first few caused a dance somewhere between “90’s geek hears an old jam” and “little girl sees a spider”... not great for those around the fire to witness. But after...

    Ideal Roof Storage Building Material

It’s your van, do what you want, but I think you are right to be concerned about the amount of force on aluminum tubing when wind is forced under solar panels. I said “space frame” as a generic term for any sort of open frame without the “box” bit that you are contemplating. Personally, I...

    Ideal Roof Storage Building Material

What are you storing and what level of weather resistance do you want? Honestly, my first reaction is that all of your suggestions below will turn out to be total hack jobs and consume a lot of $ for little return. I wouldn’t be excited about driving down the highway with solar panels...

    Replacement AEV 2.5 inch springs?

I’ll go one further and say I probably could have put them into the stock springs in place, but the AEV have more coils much closer together and you’ll hate yourself for trying. Just drop the axle and pull the springs... way simpler.

    Replacement AEV 2.5 inch springs?

Airbags. $100. Infinitely adjustable (within the range of reason).

How tf do I replace the O2 sensor on a 100-series with DT headers?

Location picture? I’m not a toyota guy but staring down a $900 sensor swap would have me seriously contemplating cutting an access panel into the floor.

    Aircon alternative - Cold Tubes

Are you imagining that the ice maker is modified to make use of the compressor only, or that the ice maker is simply creating the “cold reservoir” for your tube to circulate through? I’ve used those ice makers for several years in my house, and they would probably work well if you removed the...

    Por-15 opinions and Experiences

Huge fan here too, I used their products to clean, coat, and primer several old cars. Use the metal prep products and follow the instructions closely.

    An Axe - Seriously?

Shhhhh! Don’t draw the attention of the spork people! Next thing you know there will be a dissertation posted about how titanium is the only metal and all other alloys are simply aspiring to become titanium.
