Well the battery tray thingy is about done. Need to fill it with more batteries though, not that the truck can hold five Group 31's.
This works great! Batteries slide in and out. There is enough clearance over the top of the battery for terminal connections and such.
.
Even got some nice...
Thanks guys! Sorry for away for so long...
.
Have been climbing mountains and such. Plus my travel partner quit on me, so now I gotta find a new one. Anyone want his spot? Haha, **** happens. I guess I'll just have to find more stuff to mod...
.
Now those body mounts for the contact body are...
Oh boy, washing with baking soda and hot water? That sounds like a lot of work. I don't even wash the truck! But thanks for the advise, I would have never have thought that. We'll just see what happens with the galvanized base coat and a top layer of truck bed liner paint.
.
Got it all finished...
Speaking of protection, I guess at least the sides of the battery box should be protected, given the close proximity to the rear wheel well.
.
Just got some scrap sheet metal I had laying around and used the MIG welder to tack it all up. The sheet metal will also give the box frame some...
Oh, the battery box. Well I'm not planning on doing any crazy rock crawling with this thing. The battery box is built out of 1/8" angle iron, and it sits higher than the fuel tank, so if it manages to get damaged, I'll probably have bigger issues, I'm not gonna bother with it. I am going to do...
I was going to do a strap thing like you have, but I think I came up with a crafty idea using a bolt and some custom bent/welded pieces of threaded rod. We'll see...
.
.
Yea, about that. I haven't yet gotten the parking brake hooked up. Need to further fabricate brackets to work with the stock...
I supoose your right. If it wasn't boring, what would we all be doing here then? If that's the case, here's some more stuff!
.
Hmmm, batteries. I thought we only needed one more, but since we had the space to squeeze in two, might as well make provisions for two. Not having access to all that...
Been working with using the fridge, tv, microwave and stuff. I might need more than one deep cycle battery.
.
The battery up front works great. The voltage drop to the rear is a little more than desired, but works. If I knew that I would have been better off with 2, I most likely wouldn't have...
Thanks for the support guys! As for the generator pulley thing, I'm not sure why it popped off. Putting the keeper ring back up to it, I couldn't exactly tell how it was originally kept on. Definetely not rust. Oh well, a few beads with the MIG machine and she'll never pop off again. :ylsmoke...
So we took the truck out the other day to test her offroad. She did great, but went to start the generator to run the microwave to heatup lunch, and well, something metal flung out from underneath at high velocity.
.
Well that something turned out to be the belt pulley keeper for the generator...
So I don't like drum brakes. Don't recall anyone who does like them. I've fiddled with them, fixed them, and even talk sweet nothings into their ear. Nope, I've had it, time to upgrade.
.
Was driving down the road and the brake pedal felt funny. Still stopped, but not so good. Go to look under...
Nothing beats waking up at the crack of dawn, setting up the shower when everything is covered in frost, and taking a nice hot shower...
.
Coming up next, why I hate drum brakes and what to do about it...
So the engine runs great. Everything on the rig functions without even a hiccup. But it's winter and it's cold and snowy to go anywhere, so maybe we'll find other stuff to do to the rig to make it more like home. Hmmm, what other comforts can we add?
.
Well, how about a television!
.
It's...
Yes, I also like the good old squeal of a v-belt on a cold wet morning. And as for the engine, just google Ted's Truck's N Stuff, call em up and you'll get to talk to Margaret.
.
Speaking of engines, took the old stripped 6.2L engine block to the scrap yard. Made enough money to pay for the...
