Thanks guys! This rig is going to the moon! A note on the pulleys. I took the stock pulleys and stuff from the 6.2L and did not do any of that serpentine belt shenanigans. Good thing about this is that we keep the dual alternator setup. Bad thing is that we don't get to use the newer high flow...

Anybody can buy a new rig, bolt some stuff to it, and be cool. But it takes real heart and soul to get some of these old rigs like yours out and about. And that is a whole other league of cool that either the new truck guys don't know about or are just in denial. You sir, have my undivided...

Got everything all put back together, primed the fuel system, and who woulda thunk, she started! . As an added plus, the whole swap was done with all the tools that are stored onboard the rig, excluding the engine hoist and stand. . Dropping her temporary jail cell and leaving the driveway. ...

Yes, the oil pans on all 3 engines are different indeed, and so are the oil pumps. But good thing is that the civilian 6.5L and HMMWV pumps bolt up the same and are interchangeable. The real problem is the dimensions and where the pickup sits in the pan. Got the engine in. Went in nice and...

The 6.2L is nowhere in the same league as the 5.9L but it has it's place. The military uses the 6.2L/6.5L because they are inexpensive, reliable, all mechanical, and more or less fuel efficient. Something about the 6.5L is good because when GM stopped comercial production, the government had...

Yea, these engines are supposed to be pretty awesome. Still not expecting a powerhouse, but just fine with the workhorse that they are. I've always wanted to take blown up engines and done some kind of coffee table thing, but that's a lot of cleaning! I got the engine from Ted's Trucks down in...

The CUCV Build-1986 M1031 Mobile Field Maintenance Assault Vehicle

Well, found a HMMWV engine laying around that the U.S. government didn't want anymore. Should bolt in with little trouble. . There she is, a 2007 GEP 6.5L 6500 Optimizer out of a military HMMWV. No, it's not turbo, and won't be. This truck is gonna try to keep things simple. I'm sure it will...

Rolled the engine over on the engine stand and popped the oil pan off. Yea, kinda what I assumed, but still in denial... . Yep, crankshaft broke in two. I guess it didn't like doing the last 20k miles between 4000-5000 rpms... . What I didn't expect was the block cracking right above the...

Yea, I don't know what I would do without all the TM's. Those are an amazing resource, especially with all the crazy 24v stuff!

I like your logic. Most times it's better to take time to save time. For an expedition rig, I would personally stay away from turbo's. They do add cost and complications. I never had one, did fine without one, don't think I need one. If your out in the middle of nowhere and your turbo melts or a...

Stuff happens, you just gotta move forward. She may very well be dead. A 6.5L would be nice. A 6BT would be better. An SBC or BBC in a 10,000# truck would not be very fuel efficient. One thing to keep in consideration is the pto generator setup that we don't have time to mess with a custom...

Oh no, it was much more violent than one of the alternators going. Violent shaking and metal clunking/grinding coming from the engine. Also chunks of metal on the engine oil dipstick.

We've got bigger problems than picking toilet seat colors... Things were going great, everyone hanging around... Having a good time... And then the truck decided to stop here and not go any further... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpTL_34eTu0 Houston, we've got a problem...

Hmmm, I still have the stock steering shaft on there. That is a good upgrade that I will put on the list, thanks! I wouldn't say everything is correct. But I'm trying. It's a learning experience through some trial and error. Paint it black or camo? Then how would people know where the nearest...

Geeze, you would think they would have these maintenance trucks everywhere because our stuff probably always breaks. Now-a-days the military is selling off all those maintenance vehicles. And no, I'm not giving mine back, haha. I don't even want to know that they never used the big M109's or...

Yes, having a cooler is a big space waster with all that ice you have to carry. But they are nice when you have no power. I guess everyone has different needs and therefor gets different setups.
