Oh geeze, I wouldn't attach these to sheet metal like that. They will most likely tear the metal when you step on them. I'd say that if you can physically move/deform the material with your hands, you shouldn't mount something like these steps to it. I think in an application like a van, they...
Thanks! And oh yes, gotta have at least one gun. I also hope to never "need" one, but it's there as a Plan B, just in case.
Good thing this truck came stock with gun racks in it!
I've really been tossing the idea of a winch back and forth in my head. Being a Jeep guy, it's a no-brainer insurance to just throw one on the front. But I really wanted to keep the truck to look stock on the outside, as it was during it's military duty. And welding up a crazy custom bumper...
Getting to the roof of the contact body was getting to be a real pain. Some methods include getting a ladder, climbing up the front brush guard over the hood up the windshield, or opening up the whole back tailgate and using the bumper, tailgate, and bunk platform to scamper up there. All these...
Easy and simple was the plan. If we're using this thing on a daily basis, setup, takedown, repeat, it's going to be nice to use if it's convenient to use. If it's a pain to setup and use, then it most likely won't ever be used.
Alright, so one problem with this rig setup is rain and other weather that is less than desirable. Sure, if the weather goes south, you can sit in the cab or lay down in the bunk area. Nah, we wanna be able to cook and play cards and stuff regardless of what the weather is cooperating or not...
Maybe you guys just need to get your sea legs. Spending all that time around all those boat houses and red peppers, maybe you should park the bikes and get a sailboat? You have already driven about every road on the planet. Maybe start driving the roads on the open seas!
*Just don't tell Neda...
My old dash was also falling apart. I removed and found all the sheet metal goodness and decided to just throw the dash away. Haven't looked back since. In any vehicle, especially an expedition rig, if something serves no purpose, then ditch it. And really, what does a plastic/foam/vinyl...
I'm happy to undertake the challenge of keeping one of these beasts going. Apparently this truck was in Europe during its service and for one reason or another taken back to the states. But that was 20-25 years ago.
Still loving the overdrive!
Here you can see a bank of switches I installed. Under the dash you can barely see the overdrive control box. And yes, those are cup holders. Anyone have a better idea for these square body Chevy's, let me know. Even have a compass now so we don't get lost! GPS is...
Hey guys, thanks, it really is coming along. Love the overdrive! We're doing 65-70mph instead of 55mph. Rpm's drop and you can actually talk to your passenger! Mpg is obviously better, but need more drive time to get an idea of the average gains. I think that without the pto setup, there are...
In the words of Ricky Bobby, I wanna go fast! Well, at least the speed limit. These military trucks were only designed to go convoy speed, which is only 55mph. I think the truck shifts into it's 3rd and final gear at 32-35mph. So at 40mph it will get 25mpg, which is great. But who wants to drive...
