Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

Nissan is in deep trouble. High possibility its done. I liked a couple of their engines they built some decent stuff but today they are pretty much toast. Last March the local infinity dealer a big one closed up shop and the Nissan dealer is pretty much a used car lot today.

Roof Top Tent on an Outback

Subaru does high load limits on the rails not the bars. Lots of rtt’s on outbacks. Its about a 5mpg hit at 70-75mph. Under 60mph you hardly notice a hit.

Is the limit of putting air out of your tire relative to your wheel and tire combo?

Your over thinking it and missing some big factors. Rig weight and driving skill. Basically at a certain point you hit the point of no return which will be different based on weight and driving skill. Also vehicle wheel base length can play a role in how much weight can get transferred to a...

Ride a dirt bike then you can be BbQing and have all your gear put away by the time your buddies get their GCs and Wranglers winched out of the woods. ?

1st gen 07 Sequoia I had was 500lb max tongue 5600lb max with load leveling bars. Most I towed was 3500 which was probably the more realistic long haul go anywhere weight. 4runner is working really hard and headlights shooting stars outa the sky at 3500lb without mods. I can’t recall exact...

The first Gen sequoias are pretty good on the trail. I was able to stay with some Gwagen guys without doing 3point turns in tight spots those G’s are skinny. Only weakness was lack of rear locker. Far superior engine and driver than the 4runner. Especially towing on road trips. My 4x6 tow from...

8 and 11, been doing big trips since both were 2. I wheeled my Sequoia with a group of Gwagen guys. Only neg was the lack of a locker but it was quite good on stock sized BFGs. I decided that if I did more of that type of stuff no family which hasn’t happened no time for it. I’d just get a dirt...

My next big trip will be Glacier and likely up to B.C. That trip I’ll just rent a simple 19ft ish Bunk bed Travel trailer probably within 100 miles of Glacier so I’m not dragging it 700 miles before I get there. My 4x6 crosses NV and Utah at 75-80mph without even noticing. lol

Unless your 5’4” 4runner sleeping sucks. I only did it once then ground tented it after that. My Sequoia I did several trips sleeping in the back. I run a 4x6 original Life time tent trailer it has two queen sized beds on either side of the 4x6 floor. It works for us we have done 12 day Utah...

I usually tell my dad buddies thinking about a 4runner this. Can you fit into a Subaru Outback? No its too small? Then the 4runner is probably too small. The Tahoe is considerably more roomy than the 4runner same for the 1st gen Sequoia far more room for people and gear. I only have one 75lb...

I bought a 19 expedition it was more than $8000. The GM 5.3 is a better engine than the older Ford Expedition power options. I bought the 19 Exp for the modern stuff over the 19 Denali I was eyeing. The 3.5 10spd combo in the Expedition is a nice setup. But the older ones were bleh go 5.3 GM...

Oh in that case get a 5.3 Suburban. I’d own a van if they fit in our parking garages. Besides you’ll need a rig to tow the Dodge home from the track. The 4runner will be a big disappointment. If anything get the first Gen Sequoia. Mine was great everything the 4runner should have been. My dad...

Whats wrong with the van? Vans are super popular trip rigs to the places you mentioned. It sure frees up $ to spend on other fun experiences. We have 2+2 and have gone from a Landcruiser, Sequoia now Expedition. Even sold the daily and short trip Subaru after getting the Expedition. Crazy as it...

Even in remote non US countries it works the same way. Unless bailing wire and gum can fix it.

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

Not true. More America brands do the Panamerican with Americans than Toyota. And that goes back to the days of dirt highway and no services.

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

You travel remote places outside the US. You see far more VW variants, And other “cheap” and simple vehicles such as Isuzu, Mistubishi. Toyota is an expensive brand and actually pretty rare in truly remote rugged and typically economically repressed locations. Russian vehicles are far far far...

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

Yeah except those of us that travel both globally and here in the states find this to not be true at all. Current ie modern Land Cruisers are no more reliable than our current Domestics. And the stuff you use out side the US doesn’t even come close to the payloads and hauling weights we see...
