There was a time where going out into the boonies involved 2-3 weeks mules and horses. Yeah the modern “Overlander” concept is pretty silly before that it was just part of everyday life.
Today especially in North America vehicles as simple as Civics easily cover coast to coast.
Get another group 31. I revisit this every 8 yrs on my boat. LOL Truthfully the old boring Lead battery is hard to beat if it fits and does the job. The J500 is just barely big enough to cover small stuff. I looked at it as a PG&E backup power for my basic small house stuff. And decided to skip...
False Dodge was the original only overlanding original truck there was. The Fords and GMs were too small. Ask any old timer Cattle rancher back in the day Dodge was basically the only truck capable of towing a stock trailer for many many yrs. Toyota wasn’t even making trucks then.
Used you have about a 5-1 ratio of F150’s to Tacos. I like buying used and Tacos are near impossible to find unmolested clean stock for reasonable prices.
Neighbor has one with 4wheel camper on it. Rare super cab. He really likes it so far and doesn’t think it will need any extra suspension stuff. Tho he thought it would be needed. 2 yrs so far full time camper he’s liking it. Was very hard to find tho!
The wrath of the marketing department selling to the Prom Queen wife. Seems like every “RV” must have a crap closet. Join the club I have always found it bizarre that people want to crap where they eat and sleep. LOL My all time favorite was a tiny A frame hard side pop up, the sales guy flipps...
My issue with them. All too damn big, might as well just buy a used Winni Mini for 1/5th the price because your not dragging a 25+ft RV into the places you can take a 18ft whatever.
You must be in Canada? I recall 16-17 was the last manuals only sold outside the US. The FB engine in the OB Arrived in 2013. 2013-16 they had a number of issues all of them were parts quality consistency issues. Some were fine others got garbage batch of parts and had issues. Its become a...
Try tube protectors. They are a thin reactive hard plastic liner that goes between the tire and tube. I have used them on everything from strollers, canoe carts, mt bikes, kid bikes etc. Just round cut the ends so no sharp corners on the ends. They are simple and make a huge difference!!! They...
No different than commuting to work yr around on motorcycle. The occasional weekend riders who dust off and jump start their dead battery to ride to work on a warm day ride through commuter traffic “way WAY” different than the riders out there every day. Hell I had my every day cagers I would...
My 2010 was white/cream interior one before that was black interior. I have two kids and a dog we do messy stuff. My interior looks near new at 10yrs old simple wipe down and it is as good as new. My black interior was like a black exterior car after 10yrs. Scratched up showed lots of wear...
No wife - dad and kids only camping trips I go backpacker style. Small 4 man tent, tarp, chairs, basic cook stuff. Before I sold my Subaru Outback that was more less perfect for that type of trip. Now I have a 2019 Expedition and do lots of ride sharing hauling kids to sports etc. I do have a...
Got it. Sounds like the logging roads I grew up traveling on to remote trail heads in the Sierras, Coastal range, etc. As crazy as it sounds we hardly ever took the truck. Most trips were in the VW no joke! It sounds like you need the load capacity of the F250. Even a light weight popup type...
You didn’t say much about your type of camping use and or Wife camping comforts etc. Do you need a trail rig? Or just a nice riding utility with 4x4 snow, dirt road ability etc?
There are like a million + F150’s out there many city slicker low mileage weekend dad machines that can be had for...
Pretty much. My 4x6 at about 1300lbs no roof gear on the Subaru ran 21-23mpg trips. Bikes on the roof knocked us down to 18mpg trip averages. Without trailer rare low speed trips 32mpg typical trips 26-28mpg with the 2.5L.
