    Charging batteries, the small kind...

I used to put rechargeable AAs in my FRS and GMRS radios, and in early digital cameras, but I found that their useful life on a full charge was much less than I got from a fresh set of alkalines. So I went back to alkalines.

    Maxtrax

I have them, used them to get out of a jamb in the desert, liked them so much that I bought a pair for the other truck. One extraction and they pay for themselves.

    Battery Jumper cable recommendations?

The Chinese lithium-ion jump packs have become pretty generic, and most of them claim to hold their charge for a year. I have one in each vehicle and generally charge them a couple times a year, or whenever I think about it, just to be sure. I also charge the one in my main truck before I head...

Help me spend my modey- Dodge 2500 choices

OP is in Prescott AZ. I spend a fair amount of time in AZ, and Dodge/Ram trucks seem to be very popular with farmers in southern AZ, as opposed to Fords and Chevys in So Cal. The farmers don't throw money around, so they must know something. Re OP's proposed use for his "new" truck, the...

    Battery Jumper cable recommendations?

Lithium jump pack is a good idea, especially in BFE. My cables are HD tow truck cables, fat wire and long length (20-24 feet) for odd situations. Try places like Tool Topia, NAPA, or even Amazon.

    Winch anchor

Very true, but a couple of stakes won't work in sand. Need to carry what works in your environment.

    Tent/awning pole bag

Depends on how much stuff you want to carry in the bag. Look at ski bags and electric keyboard bags on CraigsList and eBay. I used to carry a big load of steel stakes and some tools in a cross-county ski bag (longer than alpine skis), and I found an electric keyboard (piano keyboard) case that...

    Soft shackle vs iron shackle

Daystar makes a winch thingy that solves the hook problem. It's basically a polyurethane collar that goes around the cable and you just winch the hook back into the collar and it's snug and quiet. Collar also acts as a cable damper when deployed. I have one on my Power Wagon.

Edgestar and Whynter? Tie downs, New Run $30

I just saw this, but I'll take a set if available. Fridge is a Whynter 45. Thx.

    Question about Warn M1200 Winch

Yeah, good luck with that. My local dealer (last time I asked) has never sold a PW and nobody there had ever seen one on the lot. When I needed a winch part, Warn was no help at all (because they don't support that winch even though it has a Warn label on it), and I found a dealer in the...

    RTIC Coolers

Or look at the Ozark Trail 26. And Monoprice just started carrying a line of rotomolded coolers that look pretty good on the screen, prices are good. They look like the handles don't stick out much from the body of the cooler, so may be more efficient to pack than some of the alternatives...

    Truck Fridge

I think I ordered it from AdventureNet RV, but I just checked their website and can't find it. I'll check the truck in the daylight and see if there is a label on the cover.

    Truck Fridge

The long lid on the Indel works for me because I have the fridge strapped to the rear seat platform in my Dodge QuadCab. Open back door, open fridge, easy. I forgot whose transit bag I ordered for mine (from another brand but fits pretty well) has velcro closures and keeps the lid secure...

    Truck Fridge

I have had one of the Indel B 50s for a couple of years and love it. Great alternative to the ARB, generally at a better price point. I recently bought a pair of Whynter (same as Edgestar?) 45s because I got them at a great price. The Whynters are bulkier, heavier, and a lot louder than the...

Snapdive's General discussion thread - Group buys!

Nothing is too low to advertise if you are actually trying to move the merchandise. If it is a MAP issue, just say so. I try to avoid doing business with any manufacturer that enforces MAP pricing.

It's a Group Buy. Why the secrecy?

aftermarket lighting in place of factory fog lights.

You don't want to flood the foreground with bright light, because the illumination from the high beams falls off inversely with the square of the distance from the source, and your eyes cannot easily adapt to the differential in brightness, so you mostly see the objects near the vehicle...

aftermarket lighting in place of factory fog lights.

I have no idea why GM wasn't fixing known problems with a lot of their trucks. My 98 Z71 came from the factory with the same flaws that were in the 88s. Re the headlights, I did the 4-light conversion on a couple of my GMs, used the kit from Painless Performance. One of mine had the old...

aftermarket lighting in place of factory fog lights.

I have 9011 HIR in the fogs on one truck and the high beams on another truck, and they are a huge improvement over anything else I have tied, including aftermarket HIDs. Lot cheaper, too.

    Preferred DIY paint for sliders/skids?

The Dupli-Color Engine Enamel is very good stuff, but in my experience it tends to be a bit brittle because it is a very hard finish. May lead to chipping on sliders, but easy to find and easy to respray.
