2017 Ford F-250 Overland build sort of

Look at the Leitner Rack- not 2 minutes but not 2 hours. I would think it would do the trick unless hauling the gooseneck regularly- but anything other than the retractable soft topper will be the same. The big advantage to the Leitner is the movable rear loadbar- it slides forward to allow...

    2019 F350 4x4 custom HPI flatbed/AT Atlas topper

Minutia, but with the above design, which is great IMHO, the bottom rear of the camper can be squared off to allow additional storage which is always at a premium- regardless if utilized/accessed inside or out.

Winch; front, rear, both? Fixed or movable?

Well, from my experience: -permanent front and rear are most secure and solid, especially for solo travel. -the removable/portable option is poor at best. They do ‘so so‘ in a straight line pull, but really do not like any sort of sideways pull. And remember, again solo, if you are headed down a...

    She’ll recommendation -2019 F150

Just a thought, but why not mount your rails to the cab- much easier to access for lashing? Unless of course you need the cap for camping.

Winch or not and if so sizing of one

Basic rule of thumb is 1.5x GVW, but as stated, the anchor very well may be the issue. Conversely, better to have it and not need it than need and not have. They are also very handy clearing blocked trails, felled trees, etc..

Looking for expedition vehicle suitable for family of 5

While not ‘Expo’ cool, our Sprinter Navion has been great for Mexico, US, and Canada. Based on ’06 Sprinter, has a slide out, fits in normal parking space, low key for stealth (without deploying slide), diesel (hence the ’06, no DEF/etc), seats 7 with belts, etc, etc. Kids have now gotten older...
