Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

Same with Dodge. You can even get the rubber floor pan for rinsing out the floor.

Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

The 10spd gives you Manual shifting 1-10 but it won’t shift into in appropriate gears ie you can’t shift to 1st when going 40mph nor will it shift into 10th doing 40mph. My Sequoia lets me choose 1-5 but has the same speed nanny when you press the buttons or pull the gear lever down. So I...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

I’ve been watching this wondering if the Bronco will be similar but 10spd plus the option of plugin hybrid? This could get real interesting real quick. I think you guys are off by $15,000 -$20,000 on price. The dang 2020 Explorer is 50-60k the Lincoln version pushes $80,000! I bet the basic...

Livin' Lite Quicksilver series, feedback welcome

You look at Jumping Jacks or Lifetime tent on a trailer? Or do you want house tent trailer? Used quicksilver tent trailers typically sell for far less than new. But I have met a few owners that had to do fixes. But most of the rv tent trailers have high rates of breakages but are fine if your...

Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

Or safety ratings equal to a GOV owned Russian car maker. LOL The closest thing to a Hilux we ever had here in the US was the 1980-1985 Toyota pickup. Tough as nails suspension that rode like a buckboard, and very light load capacity compared to a Full sized truck of that time. Most people...

Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

I’m a Manual guy also but to be honest a really poorly done manual vs a modern well done Auto its an easy decision for me the Auto gets my vote. There is nothing worse than a really poorly done manual transmission.

Diesel for overlanding- are you happy with the choice?

I was going to say that the new 7.3 gasser is interesting. The size was set by an engineer based on displacement vs tuning and best towing / heavy work mileage with good performance. Basically Ford is targeting its heavy fleet users with a lowest cost to run engine option. Its not a performance...

Diesel for overlanding- are you happy with the choice?

I haven’t heard anyone mention fuel availability. On my recent AZ / Utah trip we took a scenic route that was very rustic on a few parts of the trip and was surprised to see so many gas stations that didn’t sell diesel at all. A friend once told me that was his biggest negative having his...

    Dreadlocks outfitting of InTech Discover

Racoon story. Anchored in a cove hot night front hatch open. A buddy of mine had two raccoons drop in ontop of him sleeping in the v berth on his sail boat. Another friend anchored near by said the ensuing screaming yelling and sailor laced colorful language at 4am had many boats awake bright...

Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

Most recent interview with a major Australian outfitter he explained that the Ranger is now the NO 1 ute sold in Australia. Top reasons he listed proven capabilities, modern, better comfort, better power and fuel consumption also more competitive price. Odd isn’t it all the things being...

The quest for the perfect family (5 of us) overlanding/camping setup....

Yeah I’ve decided 5x10 or 6x10 short height box trailer with FWC popup roof is our next trailer. At some point I’ll need to start talking to a builder to build one

Lol the only happy RV types are or become very handy Mr fix it types. I predict the RV business will collapse to near zero once those over 40yrs old right now age out of the RV life. The age group under 40 can hardly handle calling a tow truck for a flat tire let alone deal with trying to get...

    Tundra vs F150

More reliable is debatable. I just spotted the 1979 Dodge my grandfather used on a cattle ranch, later driven by my brother through college. It even had the family rodeo sticker and tennis stickers on the bumper. Some old guy was driving it out of our local grocery store parking lot. I nearly...

    Tundra vs F150

I got 15 doing 80-85 last month towing a 1000lb 4x6 behind the 06 Sequoia 4.7L. 65mph I get 19-20mpg. Thats why I think Toyota really let down Tacoma owners.

    Tundra vs F150

Resale value is only for those who never actually own. Lease people and every 3 yrs finance a new rig types care about resale

    Tundra vs F150

More like 100 F150’s for every Tundra sold. Plus F150’s are 50-1 used in trades and heavy work vs Tundras that are typically soccer dad trucks

    Tundra vs F150

Yes Ford did the pricing boost a few yrs ago. Yeah its a poor approach but their profits showed buyers fell for it. My wifes car had the tough high ie obsurd pricing. But I called our local dealer the worst of 10 in our area. I simply said hey I’ll be there in 30 minutes for Xcolor, trim etc...

Just did a 3000 mile National Park trip 13 days. 80mph we do 16mpg - 70mph we do 17mpg 65mph we do 18-19mpg that’s towing btw. But the trailer has nearly zero foot print. Given bikes on the roof have more mileage impact than the trailer. Pile junk on the roof we see 14’s. I sold my 11-12 mpg...

    2015 or 2016 Rav4

Don’t forget that lots of new modern “suvs” are replacing cars. The New Escape due out next yr is interesting as is the Lincoln Corsair. Keep in mind the old 2017 and older Acadia was an old platform with lots of known deficiencies and quality issues. The new GM stuff have been quite good.
