    Side-mount Jerry can holders

I attached some magnets to a 12v marine pump that Jeff recommended so that I can use my jerry cans in the bracket for showering and washing dishes. I can snap the pump on/off the bracket very quickly with the magnet mounts. By the way, if you look closely in this photo you can see where my...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

I decided to upgrade to the larger Mr Heater model, so I designed a new mounting system for the 12v fan.

New JKU Cargo System and Other Upgrades

Well, I'm not sure if you will be happy or disappointed to learn that I made it myself from some simple components! I used a folding camp table, furniture risers, and a piece of plywood that I made for my kids to use as a backstop when they practice air rifle target shooting (I spend a lot of...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

I added some bungie loops to my 12v fan so I can strap it to the handle of my radiant propane heater. I'm planning to test it in a tipi tent next month.

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

    1) Well, I guess the real reason is that the exhaust materials are sold in 20' increments. So I just figured 6' was enough and the other 14' ends up adding to my "spare materials" pile of junk. I'm paranoid about the exhaust topic because I always have my kids with me (not that I'm any more...

New JKU Cargo System and Other Upgrades

Here are some photos of the tent mounting bolts. I use a wooden wedge and a ratchet with a PVC tube as an extension handle. I took the tent off for some winter treks since I plan to use a tipi-style tent instead during cold weather with an open fire or wood stove inside.

Some more upgrades this weekend. I found some flexible exhaust ducting that is leak-proof. And it only cost $40 instead of the $80 that I spent on the electrical conduit material. I did have to twist a short length of conduit onto the exhaust ducting so that it fit tightly in my coupler. But...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

Thanks - let me know how it goes. I've used a 12v fan to circulate air from the Mr. Buddy heater in my Tepui annex, so I could try the same fan with the UCO lantern. I can't find any photos of the setup in action, but here are the components:

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

Feel free to hijack! As more people contribute to this thread, more knowledge gets shared. Here are the results from my latest field test with the Propex: 1) After setting up my tent and the heater, I discovered the valve on the propane tank was broken. I tried every possible socket and...

    Finally: portable, pressurized hot water!

Here's a photo of how I used the 12v pump. I attached some rare earth magnets to the pump so I could snap it to the bracket holding my water cans. For showers, I used the pump with a 5-gallon bucket of warm water. These marine pumps have a backflow pressure sensor so the motor cuts off when...

    Finally: portable, pressurized hot water!

Thanks - I actually considered making a PVC tank and did a bunch of research. I actually have an 8-inch PVC conduit that I use for fishing rods. But I ultimately decided that I didn't want to carry the water up on the roof rack, since my tent is 200lbs and I also mount lighter cargo in...

    Finally: portable, pressurized hot water!

The money and time I spent on the failures taught me that I needed to be working with a container that is made for pressure. So I bought a RinseKit, and that was the breakthrough I needed. I can set the pressure on my PowerTank to 40psi, which is well below the 70psi the RinseKit is rated for...

    Finally: portable, pressurized hot water!

I've got several threads and ideas scattered around this forum, and I'm thinking I should consolidate them into a single Jeep thread. But in the meantime I wanted to post about some experimenting I've been doing with pressurized water ideas. First the failures: 1) I tried to pressurize my...

Yes - that's very similar to how I plan to use it, sitting on the roof of the Jeep, a few feet from the tent. Be sure to study all of my posts and Amazon.com links about how I built the hoses. The insulated hoses are the key to the whole system working efficiently (both output and intake)...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

Interesting question. Every time I've used it, the air from the Propex has been wonderful, warm and dry. I don't know enough about how it actually heats the air to say that it somehow scrubs moisture out. But I do know it is designed for use in buses and vans, which probably hold recirculated...
