2-Door JK JeepKitchen - AT Chaser - Globetrotter - National Luna build thread

I've got a hi-temp thermometer probe system that I use with my BBQ smoker unit. I'm thinking I can use it to test the stability and consistency of the heat distribution in the Coleman oven.

2-Door JK JeepKitchen - AT Chaser - Globetrotter - National Luna build thread

Just bought one after reading this post. At $30, it will be my cheapest I-wonder-if-I-could tinkering project in a long time! Here's my idea: do you think there is a way I could rig it to work with the Coleman single burner that hangs under my skottle? I own nearly every camp cooking gadget...

2-Door JK JeepKitchen - AT Chaser - Globetrotter - National Luna build thread

    1) In case you're interested, there was a pretty good discussion a while back about GVW here: Is My Jeep Too Heavy? An AEV rep got involved in the conversation, too. 2) The CM detector alarm is surprising. I wouldn't think it could be from the Propex since the combustion is happening outside...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

Dude - that is an awesome project and an awesome build thread. Finally I've met someone who is more nuts than me when it comes to sticking with a crazy I-wonder-if-I-could project until its finally done! That Propex set up should be awesome on cold nights and save you a ton of time at the...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

First of all, thank you for contributing your thoughts, ideas and experiences to this thread! I know from experience that the challenges of trying new ideas in the field is both fun and frustrating at the same time. Documenting and posting about the process adds another layer of work, so thank...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

Didn't have much of a problem with condensation, since the tent is breathes well (it's just mesh under the top tarp). Someone posted earlier in this thread that a single-candle UCO lantern helps with condensation. I want to try that next winter. I totally agree with you that compressed...

Tembo Tusk Scottle Recipes, Tips and Tricks

Definitely! You would need to be careful when simmering a beautiful skottle full of curry, vegetables, rice and meat if there is a hungry crowd around. You might get trampled!

Tembo Tusk Scottle Recipes, Tips and Tricks

More skottle testing in the garage today. Finally figured out how to make perfect jasmine rice. This should unlock a whole new menu of Indian, African and American dishes: currys, stews, gumbos and more. The possible combinations of vegetables, spices, and proteins are endless: chicken, lamb...

    Is my Jeep too heavy?

Wow - a Patriot camper and a 6,280 mile trek. That will be an amazing trip - I am jealous! Please post some pictures to ExPo along the way. And yes, regarding off-camber situations, I've learned the hard way that it's not the first tree that gets you, it's the second one. It seems obvious...

    Side-mount Jerry can holders

The dinubawater.com website mentions some challenges they were having with production - maybe try to send an email on the contact page and request an update? Steve is the name of the guy who runs Dinuba and I've always found him to be responsive. Also, I bought this device to help keep my...

    Is my Jeep too heavy?

Thanks - I've actually got a long list of threads on the ExPo, so I've learned to stay on topic and focus on the great ideas and knowledge sharing that is offered here. I also have no hesitation to share stories of my own mistakes and failures, since I figure others will learn from them. Plus...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

Did it! Survived three days in the backcountry in the tree tent, including a surprise snow storm. The only problem I still need to work out is how to keep the reflective sleeping pad to keep from sliding out from under my sleeping bag during the night. I need to anchor it inside the tent somehow.

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

Test was a success! Low temperature of 12F overnight. What I learned: 1) The four-layer thermal sleeping system worked great. I had a tailor sew some velcro into the blanket to make sure it stayed wrapped around the sleeping bag. Next time I am going to put the reflective sleeping pad...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

Thanks - yes I noticed that configuration on hammockforums.net. Makes sense. But how would I do that with a larger tree tent? Plus, I have the challenge of having to fit everything into a backpack for my trek into the woods.

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

Hey everyone - thank you for the suggestions! I am taking your advice! Today I rigged up a test system for the tree tent in my back yard. I had to drive a six-foot fence post into the ground and rig it with half inch eyebolts and use the swingset as another "tree". My neighbors think I am...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

The hammock (actually a tree tent) stretches between three trees. It's a lot of fun, but I've learned is is very important to make sure it is as level as possible. Otherwise, you end up sliding into one corner all night. Since it has the capacity to hold several hundred pounds and zips shut...
