The last 7-8 months not a thing done. Work (I am self employed and seasonal), a 6x6 Pinzgauer and some other crap got in the way.
However, yesterday I sand blasted the frame, a set of axles and a LHD dash/firewall. 800lbs of sand and 5hrs and it is nice and clean and ready to work with. I am...
The other one which is my long term dream overland truck project.
http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/75518-The-Mongrel-FJ62-body-FZJ80-chassis-turbo-diesel
and the one that has been occupying my time + money as of late, this be the one I traded for the Cruiser though. :)...
I do believe it has 4.11's. I recall there is a way to know the ratio by vin # or door jam # or something like that. I am not up and up on Y60/GQ Patrols though, just a faint memory that the ratio is somewhere on the truck.
BTW, I left you a msg. yesterday.
PS: I saw on BAT people question...
A/C? If so rear A/C?
Rear heater?
Cruise control?
Sunroof?
Any idea on diff ratios? My guess would be 4.11's.
Pictures of chassis possible? IE, posted to this thread?
Cheers
The Cruiser comes home in about 10-days. I have been thinking a bit about what I want to do to it. :)
Wheel & tires. 16 or 17" wheels with skinnier tires. Black wheels for me.
Dash cover or cap. Two cracks in the dash.
Seat covers, would do something like some new Procars just don't think I...
housing before cleaning
driving the bearings into the housing, these were the ones that were a real pita to remove
bearings in and mating surfaces cleaned
just about rebuilt
rebuilt!!
getting ready to mate the housing & backing plate
mated!!
ready to install
Cheers!
With the axle done it was time to start in on the wheel drives ~ portal boxes.
Wheel drive rebuild is in full effect. I just can't help myself, If it is old and filthy it needs to be re-newed!
my home made puller, worked great!
sand blasted, cleaned and ready for paint
primer...
Here are some more pictures of work in progress.
This is the new ball cups. Obviously a change made by Steyr.
new vs old
Parts I have sand blasted and am cleaning up
sand blasted e-brake stuff for the re-furbish I am doing on it.
Cleaned diff halves at mating surfaces.
A bit...
I made a deal on the truck recently so my time with the Warn Pinz is soon at an end. I have been doing a lot of work to the truck though and figured I would post it up here for anybody interested.
Once we had the axle in the shop tear down time began. Here you can see where the o-ring...
NV4500 and Atlas t-case are in route! Both are brand new, been a long time coming...
The NV4500 is a 95+ GM.
The Atlas I ordered with 3.0 gears, HD front output, 1350 yokes and electronic speedo.
Pretty stoked!
All I need now to start building is some suspension junk, Scout SD33T...
I like the hidden stereo. Good thing to do if traveling in somewhat sketchy places but you want some good music. Logging this one for the future! ;)
BTW, the mini-truck is to light duty for a serious overland truck. A light overland truck, it is great. But exceed GVW and you will regret it...
Sweet! I thought it may be multi-port but couldn't find much info on the engine doing some searches. That is a big bonus to me along with the LT1 heads.
Cheers
Thanks for the replies.
Initially I was like, nah, I don't want that truck (the v8 80). Mostly because of what I have on the back burner for a build with lots of the parts/stuff to build it yet still lacking some big important bits. I also was not to keen on the TBI fuel injection. Plus the...
So some of you may recall my Tacoma, I had a build thread on here of it. Or perhaps my 84 v8 FJ60!? I had a few Toyota's in the last 6 or so years. I like them, a lot. The Tacoma was supercharged so had the power I like but in the end proved to be to light duty of a truck and to small. I drove...
That is exactly what has always kept me away from the 80s. "Krazytoy" above who posted in your thread is a friend of mine. I have driven his truck and been on some of the trips he mentions. The engine isn't bad really but not what I like in terms of power. I almost got an 80 a few years back in...
