2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with J30 (gobirubicon)

Looks great - I'm sure you're eager for the field test! Please post some pictures of the interior when you get a chance. Can you leave the Goose Gear plate, fridge slide and all other gear in the cargo area? Or does that configuration need to change? And (sorry for the simple question) -...

Barn Door for JK factory hardtops

Great photos, Jeff. Adventures of a Jeep enthusiast! I am told that is is considered to be "good luck" if you rub raw t-bone steaks under your armpits before touring the national parks. Have you tried it? :)

    Update on Custom Grille Project

It's just simple fiberboard and cardboard. If the design photographs well and looks good with the various colors of mesh, then the REAL work starts. I'll need to work with a custom fabricator to get a mold master made and an estimate of costs to produce the grille in fiberglass or molded...

    Update on Custom Grille Project

I can certainly try a few photos without the mesh. But I worry that the grille needs the mesh for protection since the teeth are wider than the factory slots:

2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with J30 (gobirubicon)

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I have a question for any experts out there: Is there any way I can use the top half of the LOD wheel mount and cargo/propane/water rack system with my AEV bumper? Could a skilled welder/machinist make this work with a quick fix that is structurally sound...

2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with J30 (gobirubicon)

It's a Goose Gear floor plate (I've studied this entire thread a few times!). I really like the tailgate configuration but I have an AEV rear bumper and back-up camera, so it would be an expensive headache to swap into this Teraflex set up. But I really like how rubicon91 designed the tailgate...

    Update on Custom Grille Project

Ready for primer and then painting to match an OEM JKU body color. I'm debating whether to do the first photo shoot with a white or red JKU (or some other color). Any suggestions? I will also need a steel mesh backing. I was planning to try flat black and grey steel to see which looks better.

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

You can see in the very first post on this thread that I actually tried using a propane tank heater blanket for just such a situation! But it drained my 68Ah battery in about 8 hours. I decided that using my battery to heat propane to heat a tent was just a bit too ridiculous. But fun to try . . .

Barn Door for JK factory hardtops

Jeff - please keep us posted on the power panel too. Two questions on that design: 1) Will it be removable easily? For instance when switching to a soft top that folds back into the cargo area (like the Trektop NX Glide Convertible top)? 2) Can it be wired easily to the dual battery system...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

Thanks - that sounds like a good back up plan. The company that makes the kit does recommend using the ducting to protect the thermoplastic hose, however. If the 60mm ducting rattles around too much in the 3” thermoplastic hose, then I plan to find some 1/4” pipe insulation. I’m thinking that...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

I was very excited to receive my final shipment of components today so I could build my Propex extension hose! Well, after two hours of sweat, blisters, cuts and profane language, I gave up. The 60mm inner ducting will not work with the 2.5" thermoplastic tubing. And like an idiot, I cut the...

New Custom Grille Concept: Would you buy THIS?

Thanks - I've got plenty of other "functional" threads on Expedition Portal relating to gear and techniques, and I just finished reading your excellent article about the trek to the Cape Lookout National Seashore. I really like this community since it covers a broad range of expertise and...

    Update on Custom Grille Project

Thanks - yes, there are several things I want to test with the full-size prototype: 1) the shape, spacing and bevel of the teeth, especially at the pointy end, 2) how different types of steel mesh might look with the design, and 3) where there will be any issues with how the grille fits onto the...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

Here you go. Haven't tested it with the heater yet, but I did plug it in. It seemed quiet and plenty strong enough for my purpose (pushing the heat down, away from the ceiling).

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

Interesting - how do you use it? Can you post some pictures? Do you run it with a separate generator and place the unit inside a roof-top tent?

Thanks! PM me your address, pick a color and I'll drop a hat in the mail to you. I have several left from the test run.

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

Yes - the secret to making the Propex system work is to 1) have it very close to the tent, and 2) use well-insulated hoses for both intake and output.
