Thank you! I actually didn't know you could just spray disinfectant on a surface and leave it there, but it makes total sense. Ethanol is just alcohol, right? What's the problem with above 80%?
I'm traveling from a very low COVID area (zero known cases in my town and very few in my state) to an extremely low COVID remote area.
I've had almost no in-person contact with people since March, have practised social distancing religiously, go to no public places except groceries twice a...
Llamalander, thanks a lot for your detailed response. In fact I do have to take this much care in daily life, like separating car keys from cash in different pockets. 30 gallons of water is too much to transport. I think I'll take 5 gallons of drinking and cooking water and disinfect the spigot...
I have a health problem (low immunity) and need to be extra careful. Goal: Camp for 10 days and have minimal contact with people or things that people have touched. Mixture of commercial campgrounds and free state sites. Rural to semi-remote areas. I don't plan to use the bathroom facilities at...
I'm definitely leaning toward not leaving my cooler at my site. I'd just like to add, though, that time of day "may" make a difference. I've actually never seen a bear at a campground during the day in the WMNF, which isn't to say it can't happen. It could be less likely given that people are...
That's a fact! And the rules are in place for a reason ("a fed bear is a dead bear"), so I'm having my doubts about leaving my cooler at my site. (White Mountain National Forest).
Scenario: Black bear (and raccoon) country, Northeast US, at a campground where there are likely to be people around during the day. You want to leave your site for the day to go hiking etc.
Problem: possible lack of shade where you park your car = cooler left in hot car all day. Even if you...
If you don't wash your down sleeping bag, it will noticeably lose loft and insulating power over time. If you wash and dry it properly the loft will be restored. Not a fun job, but the much lower weight and packed size are worth the effort. Just make sure you read up on how to do it first.
I recommend the LL Bean 20F down bag: https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/120115?page=llbean-650-down-sleeping-bag-20f-rectangular-regular
You can usually find one at a reduced price at LL Bean outlet stores.
COVID-19 is a game changer for all travelers. I don't know if I will ever use a campground bathroom again. Just came back from a National Forest trip (dry toilets----did not use them). I was well prepared with a Lugable Loo. BUT: I normally leave my site during the day to go biking, hiking, get...
Exped has extremely good service. I've called them many times with questions or requests and have always been impressed. If you have a legitimate complaint they will listen. I've slept hundreds of nights on Exped mattresses and never had a failure. I'm in my fourth year of DAILY use of my...
One thing I don't understand about tables that are connected to a vehicle: my vehicle is usually blazing hot in the summer. Eating next to my vehicle is the last thing I want to do.
I forgot to mention that this thing barely fits in the canvas bag, such that over time the bag will tear. I need to find another bag.

My find of the day: EasyCamp Rennes tables on sale at Campsaver:

This European company has several other sizes of this table and other models: https://www.easycamp.com/en-gb/webshop-1/camping-accessories/rennes-m

I love this stove which was recommended to me by someone in this forum: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LW87Z9O/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
After buying it I gladly gave up my Coleman two burner.
I have one of those and like it quite a lot. I only use wood in it. It takes some practice to keep a fire going hot---it's a bit hard at first to criss-cross the wood to maintain an air flow because of how narrow it is, and the V shape. I cut kindling to length at home. Once it gets hot it can...
