    Correct as usual.

I missed documenting an important factor. The OE specs are generally 99% @ end of life. Depending on the OE it could be anywhere from 150K to 300K miles. So in USA average miles driven per year are 13.5K, so a lifetime for the vehicle is considered 11 to 22 years. There is a reason that...

    Correct as usual.

assume you mean this: "...more moving parts means more to wear and/or fail" is a non sequitur. This is entirely not a true statement. For instance... nothing is 100% reliable Systems in a transmission from you example above. In modern days components making up a transmission would be...

    Correct as usual.

yes and no. Can easily be tooling design, manufacturing cell design, error proofing etc... I've seen a lot of root causes in over 30 years as an automotive tier 1 quality & reliability professional.

    Correct as usual.

You have some good arguments here. One point missed is that an increased parts count makes for more opportunities for manufacturing errors whether it is in the making of the individual component(s) or in the assembly of the multiple components.

    Costa Rican Montero Sport

After doing business there for the past 15 years in the tier 1 automotive sector, I100% agree with the great Thailand quality. It is amazing how many OEMs have located manufacturing there as well, mostly as a manufacturing hub to serve Southeast Asia. The 300% import duty on assembled autos to...

Is the roof tent trend over?

I'm sure they are making up costs from shipments arriving earlier. From mid 2021 until late 2022 containers were above $10K (sometimes well above). Agree that now they have dropped a bunch, generally $1.5K to $4k depending on ports.

How many amp hours are your batteries? I have a few 5Ahrs batteries - Fridge draw around 2.5 to 5 per hour. I'm not going to manage battery swaps that often.

Dexter Axle Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly Pre Greased 8-201 Not under warranty unless installed on a Dexter Axel spindle Buyer beware

Both Dex & Tim will put the blame on the integrator assuming they were responsible for sourcing from those suppliers and are now responsible for that "combined design". Take for example if you had an issue with the bearing in the axle of a Toyota/Ford/Dodge etc, you wouldn't go to complain to...

Dexter Axle Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly Pre Greased 8-201 Not under warranty unless installed on a Dexter Axel spindle Buyer beware

Yeah but, Dexter has no control over the manufacturing process from Timbren I would bet is their point. Spec or no spec. I deal with these type of situations almost on a daily basis as a Sr Quality & Reliability professional at an automotive Tier 1.

    1996 ls Montero help

Montero Sports can be a donor for the 4.90 ring gears. Your rear is a 9" - 3.0L Sports also had 9". IIRC your front is an 8" - also same in the Sport. SR ring gears are 4.63, except the early 3.0l models which some had 4.88 and 9" rears but most likely 7.5" fronts. It is highly possible...
