Sewing Thread....A discussion on making your own adventure textile gear.

I used my "old" Necchi 535FA, not as old as yours, to hammer through several layers of 3 layer Gore-tex for a tent I made a couple years ago. Handled it like a champ.

Are older Land Rover Discoveries really that bad? How do they compare to contemporary Toyotas?

$3K in 2019 is equal to $10K in the 2023 used car market. It is just crazy.

    New Power System Opinions

I thought the Jackery 1000 did use an anderson for Solar input? Or maybe just the new one? I built my own for much less cost, but it did cost me time to engineer and build it.

    New Power System Opinions

Remember you need good sun for solar output. Figure 6 hours a day best case. You can add 8 to10 amps back into the battery per hour in great sun. Key West, not Alaska. Refrigerator will use 20 to 30 amps daily. An Odyssey holds 105 but only 1/2 really so 50 amps useable.

    New Power System Opinions

No, for a regular old starting battery I'm sticking to AGM for now. Reasonable pricing and generally long (6 ish) year life. Make sure you try your fridge at home before leaving on your trip. One of my older vehicles with a lighter socket put my Edgestar 45 into low bat really fast because...

Oh, main battery replacement with a Group 31. Good thing you will be bringing a jump pack.

    New Power System Opinions

After using an AGM Odyssey group 31 battery for running accessories for a few years, I decided to swap to Li-ion (roll your own rechargeable power pack) and wouldn't look back. A Jackery type devise (there are many brands and roll your own solutions) stores and releases energy so much better...

New Owner of a Gen III Montero

Nice color! (same as my old '05) These trucks are a dream on the highway. Our longest road trip was 3.6K round trip. When was the last timing belt, tensioner and water pump replacement?

    Montero SR build (Pajero)

It has an OBD2 plug, but a '95 is still a conglomeration of OBD1 early OBD 2 and Mitsu stuff. OBD 2 code reader wont work. Either need a Mitsubishi MUT unit or an old school Volt/Ohm meter with a needle and count pulses. Details are in the FSM. Even my old '92 & '93 had the OBD 2 plug...

Is the roof tent trend over?

Early adopter, had one for a couple years and sold it. Couldn't stand folding it back up to put away on top of my truck.

How many of you ACTUALLY overland with your 80s or 60s

The first vehicle I bought was a 1965 Mustang in 1979, 14 years old and full of rust. Loved and restored that car, but ended up selling it in 1986 to finish paying for college. Wouldn't trust it out of the city limits hardly even when restored. Newish cars are crazy good in general since...
