Keep in mind your camping style vs kids factor. Before kids we rarely stayed in one spot more than 2-3 days at most. With kids we learned the hard way that setting up base camp for many days and doing small side trips from camp was the best approach. Just took way too long and too much effort...
Agreed that's the main reason I sold my cherry 93 Landcrusher and bought the 05 Sequoia. But was for crash standards and survivability. The Sequoia could drive right through a J80 leaving a wadded pile of scrap. The new trucks as you say are light years improved regarding safety.
The other factor is why buy new? If the 9yr old used trucks that are 3/4 the price of a new on get the same mileage?
My Subaru gets 23-24mpg around town, no trailer or bikes up top we typically see 28-31 on road trips and with our camp trailer 21-22 add bikes up too we get knocked to 18mpg...
Sort of even YellowStone camps are not fully bearlockered. Tahoe campgrounds are better equipped with bear lockers than YellowStone but you dont have every Ranger and fence post telling you to have bear spray like YellowStone. I've never seen Bear Spray even stocked in typical Tahoe stores like...
Ok that makes more sense. If his "converter" is advanced it should also give him load info and over draw protection just like the solar controller output feature. Which case simply isolate the solar controller solar and battery only connection. If he has an inverter that has its own dedicated...
If that's all he's trying to do. Then you pick up a shore power battery charger an intelligent one like this

Bank refers to how many batteries...
My sailboat has a 15amp max shore power charger. It has advanced battery management / charging and will step up to cover 12v draw while on shore power. Heavy use items are always shore power 110 items which are plugged into the seperate shore power outlets. 12v items plug into the 12v system and...
Rvs have two seperate systems they have 110 shore power system and a 12v system. There is no intermingling them. Your 12v appliances run off the 12v system at all times and the shore power system supports 110v house house hold items.
Then you add a shore power charger. To the battery. This is what all rvs and boats have . When on shore power they have a battery charger designed to either charge or balance the draw off the 12volt system. Duel purpose plus the 12v things stay plugged into 12v system.
The solar system is 12volt already there should be nothing to convert.
Are you saying you want to power the solar controller with shore power 110 > converter > to solar controller to charge the battery?
Typically the set up is Shore power on a stand alone 110 AC system then a 12volt system...
Many parks with "clean" site rules forbid coolers left out in plain sight. Rangers will collect them. Our recent Grand Tetons visit the ranger giving the session talk we attended was also one of the top bear guys in the area. First thing he said was they had people driving through to tag and...
Matt the inverter needs its own heavy cables coming direct from the battery ideally with a fuse rated higher than the inverter pull and lower than the power cable rating. Inverters are terrible regarding efficiency and ideally avoided as much as possible. I have one on my boat only rarely used...
This controller is designed for off grid parking pole lamps. The controller will monitor box temp so mount it next to your battery to take advantage of its safety feature of preventing battery over heat. I did this on my pop up also. In my case the whole unit is contained in a 50 caliber ammo...
Dealers are 3rd party sales business. They'll sell them for what buyers will pay. Any car being purchased at or above MSRP are being purchased by people who really don't care what they are paying. Dealers who refuse below msrp or tack on Dealer BS over MSRP are simply seeing if they can get...

My neighbor bought the F150 ecoboost to haul his three kids dirt bikes and his dirt bike to our riding area 40 min away. It's the only time he uses it because it won't fit in any of the parking around here. He drives a WRX STI all...

The gen 2 and later is a really wide beast too. My gen 1 is a great size. Even sits 8 adults in fancy dinner wear for fundraiser shuttle service. The 100 was my first choice but I couldn't pass up this Soccer mom Sequoia deal so ended up with the Sequoia as my J80 replacement.
Making a raised platform to clear taller bedsides is very common. Some need 2x4 height others report that a thick rubber mat was enough. Sort out your height get er done. Make sure you check the tiedowns a few times on the first trip or two as it all settles.
I've had / have both not my parent cars mine. The Sequoia is about 9.8 inches longer than the LC it's not enough to notice when on the trail both are wide trail rigs but not as bad as a full size.
They both share similar rear suspension travel and both without lockers have similar weakness on...
For sure drive them both. They do drive different and are different regarding interior space. I really like the 100 series great machine. But I found the Sequoia to be a great value also.
