Went down to the Abenteuer Allrad expo in Bad Kissingen this past Thursday (4 June 2015). Since it was a Holiday in Germany, I was able to sneak off and have a look around. Unfortunately I had to be back at work on Friday, do a one day blitz-tour was all I could swing. But still, it was a great...
If I may add my 2 cents....
I don't think that any app could ever be the "perfect" app for everyone. Needs, way it is used, etc....is different for everyone.
I think that instead of reinventing the wheel, you look at those apps you already paid for and ask yourself "what is it about this app...
I guess the question should be "What things do you feel you need to monitor on your vehicle" quickly followed by "What do I need this data for? How can I use it?"
My opinion is that adding gages / sensors, etc just for the sake of doing it is counterproductive. Anything you add to your overland...
Why is it common to see huge tires on G wagons that have had the conversion to portal axles? Is there any reason to use a huge and heavy 315/75/R16 instead of a more sane 235/85/R16?
pros/cons?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Welcome to Germany
I usually travel solo, but maybe we could hook up for some trips. Plans to further explore the old military roads in the Alps are in full force. Thinking of the area north of Lake Garda right now. Also need to head up north to Sweden...another trip in planning.
I so much want to make some snide and cutting remarks about BLIN-G'ing this poor truck out.....a nice comment that makes you feel bad about doing such terrible things to nice G's.
but........
damm that is a nice looking truck! That 315/75/R16's on there?
;-)
It just goes to show that you don't need the latest 4x4 all decked out with all the bells & whistles....... drive what you got (or can get) and just GO!
Great story....... enjoying reading about your adventure!
You know, I love Defenders....they are many things, but comfortable is not one of them. For beating around and short road days I really enjoy driving them. But when you need to go long distances, it feels a bit like driving around in a tin lunchbox.
G is the best all round out of the...
Well, definitely go....it is a lot of fun. A dedicated campground, away from the exhibition is available and quite frankly, a highlight of the trip. Lots of like minded folks camping in their overland rigs and swapping stories of days on the road. There is a free shuttle bus running between the...
and your point is? Never heard Apple claim to have invented it. They didn't invent tablet computers either....just made them useful. I suspect the smartwatch will be just another example of this.
Yes, it is a beast....but what is the point? If you want a race car, buy a race car. If you want a solid on and off-road wonder, buy a G. Why try to make the latter into the former?

As far as I know, the 461 G is not available ( nor ever has been) in the U.S....in fact, new ones are not available in Europe either..... Though MB still makes them... As I pointed out in a earlier post, there are significant, overland travel relevant differences between the commercial/military...
Jeep J8 vs Defender 110 vs Mercedes G-Wagen vs Nissan Patrol Y61 vs Land Crui...
I have never seen a J8....had to do some research to be able to place it. Info I have found seems to indicate that they are not available for US and Europe due to emissions and such?
Bad information?
The Jeeps I...
I have no doubts about the testing OJ does....I expect this comparison to be of the normal, outstanding quality we have come to expect.
I do take exception to the idea that NA overlanders tend to shorter, more difficult routes....while I agree to the truth of this, I think the reasons are...
Two things I do:
-when the truck is unattended/ out of view, move everything so that it is not visible.
- all windows in my truck are " brick proofed" with 3M film made for that purpose.
If they are persistent and still manage to get in and steal stuff, then I am just SOL.
