I think it is a bit too light- even the carrier is only rated at 9500#. The rule of thumb is winch =1.5x vehicle weight, so 12k# is close... Look at it this way- the winch is for emergencies, so why start out under designed??

Well, a bit of a twist today- found a very nice and modded '06 LR3, tow capacity right at 8k#, so works for me. This allows the 'burb to be the work horse, and sell the K30, the D-I, and the X- pretty good cash infusion in the end!! This does accomplish many things, and while still two vehicles...

I have had many of all 3 models, and for the intended purpose, I strongly urge you to go LR3, '06 and preferably '07-10. They still have their quirks, but many less. Agreed- have had a few SD's, and parts are not a problem in most of N, C, and S America.

Guess I'm spoiled- seen too many thirds and axles explode. The lockers fix that, and the axles/CVs get upgraded simultaneously on mine- both front and rear. While this sounds expensive, in all reality it becomes very economical in the end, as it becomes bomb proof, and reliable as a result. And...
