Hello Piers- I bought it new while at their facility in Co. grabbing some Defender parts. I took it out of the box for transporting it as space was at a premium- I do have all hardware and instructions in their original bags. Normal price is around $450 I think, but I got my discount and paid...

2000 Ford Excursion as expedition vehicle

I have an extra Asfir front alum skid for the '00 X- PM me if interested. I used the one that came with the bumper, but the other is actually better in that it protects more. Brand new w/ hrdw.

Hitch mounted winch for a full size truck - recommendations?

I think it is a bit too light- even the carrier is only rated at 9500#. The rule of thumb is winch =1.5x vehicle weight, so 12k# is close... Look at it this way- the winch is for emergencies, so why start out under designed??

Adult w/ vehicle ADD- Excursion vs 3/4T '88 Burb- need an intervention pls!!

Well, a bit of a twist today- found a very nice and modded '06 LR3, tow capacity right at 8k#, so works for me. This allows the 'burb to be the work horse, and sell the K30, the D-I, and the X- pretty good cash infusion in the end!! This does accomplish many things, and while still two vehicles...

Considering an '03-04 Disco or LR3...

I have had many of all 3 models, and for the intended purpose, I strongly urge you to go LR3, '06 and preferably '07-10. They still have their quirks, but many less. If you decide on an earlier model, go '97-'99 D-I. I currently drive a'99 D-I, and really enjoy it, as do my kids even though they...

Agreed- have had a few SD's, and parts are not a problem in most of N, C, and S America.

At what point to do you give up on a D1? Can they be made reliable?

Guess I'm spoiled- seen too many thirds and axles explode. The lockers fix that, and the axles/CVs get upgraded simultaneously on mine- both front and rear. While this sounds expensive, in all reality it becomes very economical in the end, as it becomes bomb proof, and reliable as a result. And...

At what point to do you give up on a D1? Can they be made reliable?

I DD a '97 D-I, and have used Defenders and previous Discos for same for many years. As well as having many 'extras'(duplicate trucks), which I try to avoid. Point being, they love DD with proper maintenance. My 'extras' are now parts donors, and do decent at that assignment, though not always...

Adult w/ vehicle ADD- Excursion vs 3/4T '88 Burb- need an intervention pls!!

Been driving the 'burb, and it is the near perfect DD for a country boy- though a little softly sprung. Forgot how nice it is to enter level- no up or down, just sit in it. Power is adequate at best, certainly not tow worthy for 8-10k#.Could be a very nice rig, but would take some work and...

Adult w/ vehicle ADD- Excursion vs 3/4T '88 Burb- need an intervention pls!!

Okay, in order: The Disco is likely worth what I have it, as I build Defenders, and had a good many of the parts. Plus, the D-Is are finally becoming a bit of a classic- at least rust free, moderately built ones. This one has many original period correct bits, but still is a hoot to drive, and...
