Its always going to be a can't have your cake and eat it too situation if you keep just the leaf springs. You either get a good ride when unloaded and sag when loaded or harsh while unloaded and regular when loaded. If you add bags to it you can change the rate but its tough to fit. Not to...
If you are going custom mounts a 10" travel would probably be a good option but I couldn't say outside of my setup. Basically you want to have your shock travel match your wheel travel as close as possible without limiting travel in a direct acting setup (like leaf springs)
Sean
Yes. This allows you to make the shocks more vertical and can help. At the end of the day with leaf springs and non cantilever, unless you set your shocks purely paralell to the direction of travel you will have a falling motion ratio as far as the shocks are concerned. The setup above can help...
I ran a setup similar to this before I swapped and it worked reasonably well. With better shocks it would have been fine but I really wanted to have a good motion ratio and rising rate so I went cantilever.
Since you are planning to tow more, running a mini pack (add a leaf style) or going...
Loads of how much? I tow a fairly heavy Jetski trailer with 2 seadoos and a 87 js550 standup but It has very little tongue weight 3-400lbs. I have also loaded the bed with 4-500lbs of paving stones but it was squatting pretty bad. The springs are just too soft which is why I am adding airbags...
My truck is a bit of a mutant but it works. If I were to do the rear again I would have gone with a 9" Full Floater and probably would have done a 4 link or modified 3 link instead. It works pretty damn well as it is though and doesn't give that falling out from under you feeling or buck. The...
I did a diy cantilever setup on my truck that uses deaver g57 springs and 8" travel FOA remote reservoir shocks. I am planning to add airbags and hydro bumps but I have not had time to finish it yet. I have run the cantilever for about 2 years now and love it.

Yep, the extra gearing is great for towing. Just keep in mind that all the gains you get on the low end or when loaded are a tradeoff up top in gas mileage. My truck averages about 15mpg once you account for the different odometer reading.
Sean
I consider the sweet spots to be
33's and 4.56's
or
35's and 4.88's
They are a little over geared compared to stock but it makes the truck drive great, if my memory is correct, the speedo reads 10% fast.
Sean
I have a rear third member with 4.56's that I pulled from my truck with the trd limited slip I am looking to get rid of if you are interested. That generation of double cab in black looks great.
Sean
Mine is currently 2wd waiting on a front set of either 4.56s or 4.88s depending on if I keep 4.56s in the rear or swap to 4.88s as well as me making a decision if I want the stock tundra transfer case or if I want to swap a j shift manual box in.
Just kind of on the backburner right now...
you don't know things...
4.56 with 33's on the 4 speed tundras is about perfect, which means 4.88s on 35's
The extra oomph from the gears makes the truck really great to drive.
