I was mulling a 2500 Ram for awhile earlier this year. Upgraded tradesman, offroad, tow package, gooseneck prep, chrome and it was under $55k.

I'd trust the hitch mounting a lot more on the '85. That crossmember the Bronco hitch mounts to is very dainty and thin. It is probably mostly suspension but I don't think they really over built the hitch much for what it is rated. This is considering the newer Ranger with a similar footprint...

It also got bumped to a D50 rear axle. So now it has the same tow rating as my '85 with a fourth the power and a much narrower puny 7.5".

I wanted a 2500 Ram for the better part of a year. Then I started poking around pricing maintenance stuff. Spark plugs, wheel bearings, brakes etc. Kinda put me on the fence vs a half ton. It's a huge jump. Then I drove one, way high ride height, difficult bed access, can't see out Etc...

After bolting on the receiver hitch I am no big hurry. That crossmember isn't super beefy.

You mean a bed a 6'+ tall person can reach the bottom of without needing a step?! Off topic or not, a Bronco Pickup could come close to scratching the itch too.

The appeal to me is basically getting a brand new 1980's truck without having to deal with fixing rust and updating the powertrain. Few bells and whistles, even fewer unit wheel bearings... just simplicity with almost 40 years of refinement. Honestly if I could get a brand new '86 F-350 CC...

All Broncos have Led headlights. Our black diamond with the base headlights are fine with me. Nhtsa was less than impressed with either option though, there may not be a big performance difference between the standard and signature headlights.

Generally in low third the ol 302 chants along at 1800 rpm cleaning tires in the mud/snow I drive in like a champ. In what I do I have never had to really open it up beyond dieselish rpm while offroading.

Major powertrain issues are rare across the board, I don't care what is on the grille. I have had Fords for over 20 years, just bought my latest one a week ago yesterday. They have done fine by me. We have had our Bronco for 2mo and we are still loving it.
