    Would you?

The H55F has about an 18% overdrive. With 3.73 gearing and 31" tires I could cruise 70+ (about 73, IIRC) at 2500 RPM in my FJ60. It's as much a brick as a 40.

What Brand Camera Do You Use?

I have 6 Nikons - D2x, F4, F2a, Nikkormat Ftn, and a pair of Nikonos U/W cameras. I have a Canon G4 digital P&S also. A nice camera. Choose carefully. If you buy a 35mm SLR format camera, you will end up with a bag of lenses at some point, and the future brand choice will be dictated by what...

    Would you?

Myself, I would go back to stock 4:11 gearing and 31" or 33" tires. I put about 150,000 miles on my old FJ40 with stock gears, wheels and tire sizes. Never got stuck or wished for something diiferent. Best thing you could do for your truck and your self is an H55F tranny. I had one in my FJ60...

    Lightest alloy wheels for FJ60?

Rose Stock Toyota steel wheels are not light - they are heavier than most aftermarket steel wheels. BUT... They are tough. They dent (not break) and can be hammered back into round in the middle of nowhere. They are available. I think 16" would be wise, since it will significantly improve the...

    Aux Battery Books

I have used marine electrics resources. This is the same problem - but afloat. Good place to look for electrical systems and components. You could start with the 12 Volt Bible, avaiable at marine chandlers and shops like West Marine. The West Marine catalog and website have sections of useful...

    Nikon Wide Angle?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I am going to look for a prime AF lens that would work out to about 24mm on the D2x and be fast enough to use in most situations. M

I am a hunter, yet I do not like to kill animals

I think Jonathan articulated my feelings very well, so I cannot add anything. To those who feel that hunting is somehow 'wrong', I say this: By the fact of our existence as humans, we act. Is it wrong for a leopard or wolf to kill? Are we not as much a part of the world as any other species...

    Looking to buy 30-06

Dave the Remington 700 is a very fine rifle. No frills and very accurate out of the box. .30 '06 is a great cartridge for all round big game hunting, and excellent for elk. I agree that replacing the current scope with a Leupold (probably a fixed 4X) would be a good investment and would allow...

Desertdude -1997 80 series build up

Gotcha. But you only need to mess with the gauge WIRES. But no problemo the way you did it - has a sort of aviation look to it. M

Desertdude -1997 80 series build up

Comparing this to the 44 gal LR install in my 80... the diagram looks good, but why not switch the tank and gauge input both from the subtank switch, and route the sensor through a linked switch to the stock fuel gauge? This eliminates the entire problem of installing more 'stuff'. Mine works...

    Roof load on FJ Cruiser

Roof rack ratings are dynamic. The FJ Cruiser with Thule 450 Crossroads feet and standard Thule load bars (LB50 or LB58) on the port installed rack is rated at 165 lbs. dynamic. No static loads are published but consider these points... 1. Dynamic loads have to do with COG, braking and handling...

    is this a copy?

I am familiar with Trekking and the Bivouac tent that they sold for a couple of years - but despite their claims, they did not originate the Columbus style design. Here are a couple of even earlier designs...

    Shore power cord only?

I believe that the (expensive) marine shore power cords have a built-in fuse. They are designed for powering both 12V and 110V power suckers on a larger craft. A simple 'smart' charger is not pulling more than a few amps when running, and the draw drops as the battery charges up. I use a good...

    Nikon Wide Angle?

Yes, but it ends up being close to a 35mm on the digital body. I do like it on my F4 and F2A.

    Nikon Wide Angle?

Thanks. I will take a look at that lens. The 24mm f2.0 is still in nikons line up, and has high resale. It would kill me to sell it to buy something unproven. No prime lenses available for Nikon digital cameras?
