Ram Powerwagon vs Chevy Colorado vs Jeep Wrangler Rubicon vs Suzuki Samurai for Snow?

Yes. I have tried skinny tires, more than once. Air pressure still drastically helps. Every stock vehicle start out with them.....then I modify because I want MORE off road capability. I'll say it again, you seem to lack the personal experience to judge how big tires work in various...

Ram Powerwagon vs Chevy Colorado vs Jeep Wrangler Rubicon vs Suzuki Samurai for Snow?

Ok.....so we are finally getting down to it.....you have never run large tires personally and you are basing most of your opinion around odd experiences. Man I really get disappointed when people do that. I've logged nearly 100k miles in my Dodge driving in and out of every kinda of...

Ram Powerwagon vs Chevy Colorado vs Jeep Wrangler Rubicon vs Suzuki Samurai for Snow?

I don't know..... I daily drove my old Dodge on 39's through Colorado winters for about 10 years. I pulled a LOT of cars and trucks on small tires out of ditches. Never once had to put chains on it. Never had to get pulled out of the ditch by anyone. I daily drove my LX45 project through...

    Next generation snatch block

I'm sure the people that just don't like the idea will be along to complain about the next 'issue' any minute now. It is good to see some more good info coming out. I've been soooooo happy with my snatch ring package for the last few years now.

Ram Powerwagon vs Chevy Colorado vs Jeep Wrangler Rubicon vs Suzuki Samurai for Snow?

Of course vehicle matters. You mentioned 37s on a Jeep......37s on a jeep will get you further up the road in deep snow than stock tires. There is always going to be somewhere you can't go. You just need to get further than everyone else. I've never had a situation where my tires where too...

Worse than what? An aired down 37 is going to sink less than a stock tire.

Ram Powerwagon vs Chevy Colorado vs Jeep Wrangler Rubicon vs Suzuki Samurai for Snow?

even just 37s, with proper tire pressure, will be night and day better than stock in those various conditions. Need to be able to get into the low single digits for the magic to start happening.

Ram Powerwagon vs Chevy Colorado vs Jeep Wrangler Rubicon vs Suzuki Samurai for Snow?

Sure, that is why you build the most capable vehicle you can and get lots of seat time for experience.

Ram Powerwagon vs Chevy Colorado vs Jeep Wrangler Rubicon vs Suzuki Samurai for Snow?

The smallest lightest vehicle with the largest tires possible. You really need a LOT of gearing options for different snow conditions. Super deep gearing can really help in some snow conditions, going VERY slow with like 100-200:1 gearing at an idle can give the snow time to compress and the...

Ram Powerwagon vs Chevy Colorado vs Jeep Wrangler Rubicon vs Suzuki Samurai for Snow?

Are we talking about driving around in DEEP snow off-road, or are we talking about driving around on snowy (icy) roads?

Mini-mod. I must be getting old. Getting in and out under the camper just isn't working for my knees anymore. I decided to add a thick rubber mat to the bed floor to help with that. It should help a lot with the Flippac camper up too for walking around on cool mornings. Sometimes it's the...

    Lets talk shovels

Full size shovel in cam lock mounts on 3d printed stand-offs held to the bed with 4x4 pieces of 3M VHB double sided foam tape. It's nice to have a good home for it that is out of the way and easy to get to. The cam lock hangers don't require fine motor skills to use ( you don't need to take...

Starter Comms — What should I get for basic comms to let me start joining group runs, etc?

I would love to see more clubs and organizations supporting better comms plans. I am SOOOO tired of the 'EvEryOne ALreaDy hAS a cB' excuse. People use to just throw rocks at the car in front of them too, time to update. Personally, I have had my Ham tech license, and now a GMRS license, for...

Another mini-mod. I really like having a shovel in my vehicles. On a full size, I think it's best to have something with a long handle to be able to reach all the way under. I also hate not having a 'home' for it.... I found some affordable cam action tool hangers at home depot ( along with a...

The 05+ style front axle is a pretty signifigant update over the 99-04 version. It has larger knuckles, 35 spline outer axle, and a much larger/stronger unit bearing assembly. You can bolt in later axle shafts with the 1550 u-joint. I love that there is no axle disconnect, and you can still...

I swapped over the Milestar Patagonia X/T tires in the *gasp* stock 275/70R18 size. The previous Goodyear Duratrac's, while a decent tire, where pretty underwhelming at half thread going into this winter. The Patagonia X/T is a bit milder than I usually run, but traction on snowy roads has...

Amazon had these DrawTite hidden hitches on sale for 120 delivered a few weeks back. The install was pretty easy. Having the front hitch gives me some future options, and will probably keep me from building a custom bumper for a bit longer.
