Anyone out there running an Aluminum Contractor Topper?

I might have to start watching the channel again. I don't have anything against Subarus per se as they are capable vehicles for what they are. But he was kind of the typical Subaru fanboy where he would brag about how awesome they were and why would you need anything else and then 5 seconds...

    INEOS Grenadier

Wow , looks great. Big chunky switches you can see and use while driving, especially off-road. It's sad that this is such a revolutionary concept in vehicles these days. But the whole industro-chunk meets modern interior is a really nice direction to go in. Better than I was hoping for.

Jeep gives Wrangler 1.5" lift, 35" tires and 4.88 gears..

I have never once complained about a vehicle having too much gear reduction in a situation. Short of trying to drive ridiculous old school three speed Jeeps on the highway lol. Plenty of times I have complained the other way around. If you are in a highly loaded vehicle at altitude up a steep...

Riding the most remote road in North America on two wheels - The Trans Taiga Road

Cool write up. Thanks! Have you done QC 389 and Labrador? Curious how you liked it compared to the trans Taiga if you have.

integrated compact truck in the us

The whole rear opening up is such a better design than those campers with the little hatch opening. As a bigger guy (read fatass) I don't even fit in those. Yet I am perfectly comfy on a smaller size platform. But the door openings on some of these blingy campers are ludicrously small and...

Best location for CB 102" whip antenna on 4x4 pickup with cap?

CBs are such garbage in real life paying attention to eliminating ignition noise is often the only thing one can greatly do to improve using itand comprehending transmissions. SWR, antenna style, antenna location, all really don't make that much different in a real world wooded or hilly...

Man that is a gut wrenching tale. Good luck with sale.

Roof torn off in high winds

Except that is exactly what would happen when a gust gets past the seals, or compresses the seals enough to unlock a latch and cause the others to fail, or flutters on the seals and shock overloads the fasteners. The localized pressure in these areas is extremely high not low. I'm not 100% sure...

    Warning re Jackery product quality/design

The retorts against you are like being at a right to repair legislative hearing and listening to dumb politicians and corporate lobbyists alternate between lying through their teeth and being extremely ignorant LOL.

    Gaia Mexico Topo Layer

I am not sure if this is new or I just missed it but I don't think it existed when I was last in Mexico. Kind of stupidly it is hiding under the 'United States' selection of maps so it would be hard to intuitively find. I stumbled across it looking for something else. Has lots more info than the...

Gaia GPS no longer supports Google Maps Layer. Major disappointment!

Here you go. Didn't notice the 200 foot part, oops. It defaulted at 500 but I don't think any of these had any more res to give anyways.

    235/85/16? Let's see them

This thread should be turned into a calendar lol. I love all the pics. This tire size just has people building awesome functional rigs at a way higher percentage than average.

Roof torn off in high winds

I doubt it. The roofs of some commercial vehicles are wafer thin fiberglass with minimal bracing you can't even walk on. If negative pressure was the issue these roofs would get sucked off pretty regularly and they don't. I have also transported vehicles with damaged roofs back and forth across...

Pocket Media Group buys Gaia GPS

Yeah the lack of folders and decent waypoint management was confusing untill you view the larger scenario as described.

    Campsite scalping

In my perfect world 50% would be FCFS and 50% would be reservation made no more than 48 hours in advance and no more than 1 reservation per quarter per person if occupancy rate is over 80% average. Also the initial request needs to be done on a lottery system. Submit a request and then X number...

How bad of an idea is this?

This all day. Plus you can use every heat source under the sun from a campfire to an exhaust manifold. There is no comfort like knowing that even in the apocalypse as the EMP blast has wiped out everything on the planet and the alien hordes are invading I can still make coffee. In all...

Which maps do you use in Gaia?

They have really done a good job at updated the Gaia topo layer. I find now it almost always has the most info now compared to other layers and the light data footprint it has cannot be beat. I like the US topo layer as it has a lot of nuggets on there that other maps don't and the secondary...

Roof torn off in high winds

The seals and the tent will compress and flutter in turbulence and those compression latches can get slack and come unlatched. A simple ratchet strap would let you drive in high winds right up until the whole thing got blown on its lid.

Gaia GPS no longer supports Google Maps Layer. Major disappointment!

There are a bunch of satellite layers. Some share the sat data but some are different. I would check them all out. Sometimes I have found the images different even when it is supposed to be the same data set. I would check everything against whatever specific area you are looking at, at the time...

Why does no one use a high truck shell?

That really is the most frustrating thing about searching used truck caps. Search for ever and...nothing...nothing...too expensive...too beat up...and then blammo! Something perfect for less than a tank of gas but you have to go scoop it up immediately or it slips into the ether LOL.
