    Red, Blue or Yellow?

Ed I have been using Optima Yellow Tops in my cruiser - a dual set up in the FJ60, and currenty a single in the 80 - I will double up when I get around to it. I made my selection the easy way - I asked Mudrak what the best, most durable battery is, and he said Optima Yellow Top. So that is...

Rear flood lights mounted in the bumper

I thought about a Halogen tractor implement light mounted there, but decided to try to find lights that fit the Kaymar cut-outs, since they are already wired with a dash switch, etc. Could go with that solution is I can't get what I want. There is a light made by Peterson Manufacturing that...

    looking for tent

If you are looking for a large, canvas tent, I suggest a classic canvas wall tent. There are a number of makers on Idaho and Montana that will whip one p for you. A large tent (cooking, eating, sleeping) should be 10' X 12' minimum. I have used canvas wall tents with wood burning stoves in...

garmin compatible Mac solutions and USAPhotoMaps

Looking for a garmin compatible mapping solution for my MacBook. Any help? Also, have any of you used USAPhotoMaps? I like the idea of being able to store them on my machine, and to overlay maps and sat photos. Mike

I have a Kaymar Bumper with holes cut for rear facing flood lights, All the wiring is already in place, but the ******** Cepek lights the PO installed are toast. Lights inside a rooftop tent

I went down to West Marine today and bought a goose neck 12V Xenon chart light that takes 10 watts. Also bought a small 12V swiveling fan. I will have them installed in the Maggiolina Extreme tomorrow, and will report on how this went. Mike

Dedicated trailer battery... What would you use?

Drew I have two 105 AH batteries. Combined, they provide 210 AH (give or take). I use these for running accessories, but not power tools, winches or inverters. Consequently, they last a long time. LED lights and water pump are nothing. The fridge will draw more amps. Get the data on the draw on...

Dedicated trailer battery... What would you use?

West Marine sells a very nice battery hold down system. A base that bolts to the mounting surface, a set of threaded rods (stainless) and a top piece that fits around the entire perimeter of the battery top. They will hold a Group 31 marine battery very well, and are reasonably priced. I looked...

Dedicated trailer battery... What would you use?

Drew I used a pair of West Marine 105 AH marine batteries with a Guest dual battery charger mounted nearby. I think you need a 'house style' marine battery that can be discharged over and voer again. I do not think you need an AGM type - it's not worth the extra expense. The batteries sit in a...

Jamaica - Ya Mon! (non-driving trip)

I have spent quite a lot of time in Jamaica since my first trip there in the sixties. It is an excellent place, but it is not the USA. Most tourists who have problems there (a very few) bring it on themselves by doing stuff that is stupid or disrespectful. For example... do not go to meet a...

Question on mounting a solar panel...

Ed Good advice here. Please post a photo and evaluation of the set-up when you have it done and a little use on it. I have thought of doing this to trickle charge the trailer batteries, but am not real confident of the drability of the panels currently offered. How are you going to wire it up...

    Another Tent Question...

If you have factory side rails, use a Thule 450 with a standard Thule cross bar set. Limit is 100 lb. Dynamic (when driving). If you are slick on top, get a Yakima or Thule track system installed. Most of the rof rack rating system is based on center or gravity and how it effects handling and...

    Another Tent Question...

A couple of things... You need to consider dynamic laod limits first - can the tent be safely carried? It must be under the mfgr's rated limit. Then you need to consider a third bar - espacially on vehicles with rain gutters. Third bar will NOT increase the dynamc load limit, but it will...

    FJ advice

SD Looks like a tidy FJ40. If there is no rust and a stock engine, it could be a good starting point. It will have 'three on the tree". BTW that's an I6 4.X liter (can't remember exact displacement, though I owned one from '72 to '84) with carburation. M
