The Everlanders took this approach. He argued that an Espar hot air heater was simpler to install. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC76GYXW3j9z5g3OdW--Sf5g

Dual Top notes. Had/have two of them, one on a Tiger and now in the XP. Both were bought and installed by the camper manufactuers. -- Don't make too much of the "on demand" idea. Most hot water systems heat around 5 USG and supplement as needed. This is easily enough for two adults to take hot...

    Charging LiFePO4 from 12V

I had forgotten about the sun setting! And, with most of us, the big electrical loads come in the evening - cooking, etc. so the battery voltage is going to hammered in any case. The kill-your-batteries-by-floating is mostly a problem with open lead acid sitting on city power for months, e.g...

    Charging LiFePO4 from 12V

Ding! Ding! A winner. While betting hats, I suspect that, after having spent a ton of change designing chargers that do the bulk/absorb/float dance, the manufacturers will simply reprogram their float stage to be lower than the resting stage of a lithium battery. The same thing that you can do...

    Charging LiFePO4 from 12V

Again, this really isn't hard. -- Add solar: Two options, use a controller with integrated solar, e.g. REDARC (25A if your 40Ah battery is all you will ever have, 40A if you may go to something larger) or a stand alone solar controller with an acceptable lithium output. Again, 200w isn't much...

    interior exposed metals

Cold bridges lead to condensation under the right conditions. So, bare metal, inside to outside is terrible. If the metal is covered on the inside, it will be better, but you could have condensation behind the cover, that is, inside your walls. Just depends on how cold/how humid. Winter in...

Jon beat me to it. The point is that a diesel system uses so little fuel that you can leave it on all the time.

Interesting. The Dual Top has about the same time, but we almost never turn it off, certainly never in the winter. So about the only time there would be a wait is in the summer, but that is never a problem as we turn it on when we wake and it is hot by the time we need to wash up or shower.

??? Mine certainly is. (Webasto Dual Top) YMMV.

FWIW: 28v is 14v x2, or just a bit low for 24v lead acid battery bank and probably perfect for lithium. But put a meter on that beast to be sure. Use a 24v solar controller and inverter/charger and then use a converter to produce 12v for your appliances. May actually give you slightly better...

Amen! If you look under "Documents" on my site, you will find things that may be useful. Further on, you will need to think about 24/12v integration. There are various ways to do this and a lot will depend on whether you use lead acid batteries, in which case you will want to optimize for high...

For those that carry Guns and Overlanding

Chris, you are correct, but do note that it was a deeply divided decision. As I said, scholars, and Supreme Court Justices, do differ.

Slightly dubious source! http://ariwatch.com/WhosWho.htm#RobertTracinski ;-) To the rest, I have, in fact, read the entire Constitution. (And the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights.) And, for what it may be worth a Batchelor's degree in history, including US. Let us just say...

Sigh. You are citing your interpretations, I am quoting the US Constitution. I would argue that certain of your assumptions are historically incorrect. Again, read the Constitution. N.B. I am not arguing against carrying firearms when traveling, only about the idea that the Second Amendment was...

Always worth putting things in context: "Section. 8. The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform...

    Very good truck adventure Videos

Wonderful production values! Do they have a blog or website? Couldn't find a link on YouTube. N.B. If you don't speak German (and I don't) you can fake translated subtitles with most browsers. Gets terribly lost from time to time, but it helps. N.B. 2: You don't hear that much, but from the...

    Charging LiFePO4 from 12V

Making this too hard. Your "magic" box is still nothing but a battery in a plastic case. Ditch the AC adapter and simply wire it up as you would a normal, isolated dual battery. Bring the feed from your alternator into the same Anderson plug point that the AC adapter uses. If you don't have...

    Importing an LMTV into Canada

I fear that you will end up spending many times more than that. Simply in the nature of these beasts. (See threads on this site.) Great deal if you can do it yourself in your drive, bad deal if you are paying full freight for labor. But this is just an opinion, YMMV. N.B. Shoot me a line when...
