    Digressive or progressive shocks

Stiff springs are the root of all evil generally, especially when talking about off road stuff. I find that you only want enough spring rate to hold the vehicle up to the proper position. Having some preload at full droop is good. Zero, of negative, spring rate at full droop is bad. Roll control...

    Recovery thoughts, ideas, advice

I agree that there are some hokey factory attachment points, Toyota seems like a good example of bad examples, but their are also some pretty good ones our their like the Jeep Wrangler or Ford Super-Duty fronts. There are also SOME good examples of aftermarket units ( like the ARB unit you...

AEV Prospector XL Flatbed Adventure Rig

I'm not a flat bed or camper guy....but this truck is awesome. Thank you for posting the thread.

I don't think this is necessarily true. A welded on recovery point isn't any stronger than a properly designed bolted connection. The problem is that it has to be properly designed. Honestly, I put the most faith in OEM tow/recovery points over a lot of stuff I commonly see in the 'aftermarket'...

Project: Blanco, The 2007 F350 Standard Cab Adventure Truck

I also stumbled on this bit of tech for the tow ratings and recommendations for this year truck. https://www.fleet.ford.com/resources/ford/general/pdf/towingguides/07RVTTguideApr08.pdf It looks like this truck would be rated to tow 12,500lbs in this configuration.

Project: Blanco, The 2007 F350 Standard Cab Adventure Truck

Mini-mod for today, some better quality 'silicone' wipers. I can't say if I have ever run a wiper like this honestly.... The ones on the truck where done. I like vehicles that use the same wiper on both sides, this one takes normal 20" J-hook versions that you can find anywhere. I was also...

Project: Blanco, The 2007 F350 Standard Cab Adventure Truck

I tried, in two years of looking I just really didn't find what I was looking for ( base model, reg cab, longbed, manual, 4x4, white, etc ). I do think there are some things I like better on the Ford, but I would have been happy with either honestly. The truck I ended up with will be juuuussst...

Ram 2500 gasoline extended gas tank help

That is the trade off, I will probably be running a 37+ tire on the new truck. On my old dodge I ended up mounting the spare upright, behind the driver, along the bed rail, in front of the wheel tub, slightly tilted to the inside. This let me run a 39" tire inside the camper shell space without...

Ram 2500 gasoline extended gas tank help

I'm looking at adding an OEM Ford Excursion 44 gallon tank ( and oem skidplate ) behind the axle in my new F350 project. That would give me just over 80 gallons in combination with the 38 gallon factory tank. Other than having to replace the factory X-member that holds up the spare tire, it...

Needs a good skidplate still. That is one stump away from a bad day.

I grabbed a base weight on the truck today at lunch.

Project: Blanco, The 2007 F350 Standard Cab Adventure Truck

I don't think this will be a big or fast build, I do have a lot of stuff going on for sure. This will be more of a 'support vehicle' rather than a huge project I hope. Thanks for watching.

Project: Blanco, The 2007 F350 Standard Cab Adventure Truck

Do you know what gears you have in the axles? This one has 275/70r18 tires stock with 4.10s. It seems like an odd combo from what I can find. The wheels are factory 18x8 steel. I totally expect to get down into the single digits when towing with the truck. The empty road mileage is a nice...

Project: Blanco, The 2007 F350 Standard Cab Adventure Truck

I knew the gas engine was going to use more fuel than a diesel, BUT I think there is a huge offset cost reduction going with the V10 over the diesel. Diesel truck prices are just silly these days with people asking 2x more than I paid for this truck for a 300K mile diesel version. I live 3.8...

Project: Blanco, The 2007 F350 Standard Cab Adventure Truck

First mini-mod for Blanco tonight... The elastic strap on the drives side vinyl was pretty stretched out, it wouldn't really hold anything anymore. A paper clamp allowed me to dial in the amount of tension I wanted and also provided a straight line for a little stitch work. The loop I created...

Clamping force will be a substantial bonus with the parts being steel on steel with a high friction coefficient. Of the top of my head...(bolt clamp force divided by interface surface area ) x coeffecient of static friction.

I carry a short 3' section of chain for the 'odd' attachment to a vehicle without decent tow points. It only has a chain hook on one side. I usually tape or wire the hook in place so it can't come undone. This is a last resort, but is much better that ruining an expensive recovery rope/strap...

Project: Blanco, The 2007 F350 Standard Cab Adventure Truck

    Blender, My LX450/FZJ80 + FJ45esk + GM + Land Rover crazy concoction

Not really, I put 12,000 miles on it in the first year. It works pretty well. Other than small little stuff, I haven't changed much at all. When the weather gets nicer I need to figure out a replacement bed floor thing and a few other little projects. I have been VERY happy with this little...

    Next generation snatch block

I have some access to load cell stuff at work....but everything is basically on either end of the spectrum we need. I'm not going to use a 50K load cell for testing....and my little 2000lb hanging scale could get damaged. Yeah, bending a moving line around that kind of radius is going to be...
