2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 3.0L EcoDiesel

I don't think it has to be that fancy.... The current Jeep Grand Cherokee is rated to tow 6200-7200lbs. Similar engine, trans, vehicle size, wheelbase, payload, and vehicle weight. That is nearly a 2x improvement on what we see with the JLU platform, and inline with the JT program.

I do think there is a lot more going on with .gov 'rules' effecting how smaller vehicles are getting rated for payload ( and towing ). It would be nice to see smaller vehicles being built with more margin, but I just don't think we are going to get an 'offical' blessing on that from the OEMs.

I'm winch dumb, can you help me?

Lots of Warn winches used to come with steel ( cast or forged maybe? ) hawses back in the day for use with steel rope. It wasn't too bad. I've seen lots of them 40+ years old and still functional. I'm sure they have drawbacks, but I don't think it is a super critical option. They are simple. No...

I'm winch dumb, can you help me?

If you are pulling at the 45 degree corners with steel cable you are probably going to have the same issues though? I think the roller flairlead is just more limited in what you can do with it generally. That winch max unit is interesting, but I think pulling hard between the rollers could...

I'm winch dumb, can you help me?

Over time there will be a bit more wear with a hawse, but synthetic line itself is a very slippery 'bearing/bushing' surface. I've never seen heat buildup in a hawse from a recovery operation. The larger radius you can have hawse the better generally. I have synthetic line that is 8+ years...

I'm winch dumb, can you help me?

You can use a roller flairlead with synthetic line, there is just more risk that it can go slack and get caught over or under the bracket supporting the side rollers. Typically, it isn't a huge issue for most people. It is very important that the rollers be as smooth as possible.

What is the top tool for a recovery situation? [Poll]

Oh gees.....that is a pretty big soap box you are standing on there.....

What is the top tool for a recovery situation? [Poll]

It was a vehicle that got stuck in an early winter snow storm on the Rubicon Trail. The pic was from the recovery in the spring.

You can always bury something, sometimes it just takes longer to dig the hole.

What is the top tool for a recovery situation? [Poll]

I've done it, more than once. I had to use a tow strap wrapped around 5-6 of the largest I could find. Worked great. Sometimes It only takes a few thousand pounds to help a vehicle get out.

What is the top tool for a recovery situation? [Poll]

Bullpucky. I have seen more people damage more stuff because they jumped to pulling cable and didn't bother to properly prep the site for the recovery. The most common trying to winch themselves up, over, or out of something that was making the vehicle totally immoble in the first place...

What is the top tool for a recovery situation? [Poll]

    Sometimes you needs a shovel(s) and a winch(es)

What is the top tool for a recovery situation? [Poll]

Because if you don't dig when you should.....the chances of breaking lot of stuff with the winch goes up dramatically. The most underutilized off road recovery tool is the shovel.

So is a '9000' class winch 'enough' for a 6500# Suburban

I know the multi-mount system is tempting, but one of the only times I have came VERY close to seriously being injured was with one of those units. The short version. Moving them back and forth on dry flat ground is one thing. Trying to move the winch to the other end when the vehicle is half...

Sadly, the development of aftermarket differentials for the AdvanTEK axles has been slow. I haven't seen any limited slips offered yet other than the factory Trash-Lok style diff.

From what I have seen with the JL housing, yes. You could install a factory E-locker in the housing. If you wanted the factory wiring plug connection passing through the housing you would have to pull the housing out for modification, if you just want to pass the wires like any normal E-locker...

That's nice. You should talk about how to fix it at work instead of droning on and on about it. If the problem comes up, fix it. This isn't rocket science. There are MILLIONS of vehicles on the road with coil springs and beam axles that don't have issues. My own vehicles included.

Death wobble doesn't come exclusively from lack of lateral axle control. It is a TIRE oscillation at the root. It can come from tire imbalance, slop in the steering system, lack of lateral axle control, sloppy ball joints or kingpins, lack of caster, too much caster, bent wheels, bad steering...
